As for McMeeken, I also think he'll start at prop, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll get number 8. Different coaches do it differently, but often they reward longer servants with 'starting' numbers, and give new signings a year in a higher number. That's the only reason I've got Atoni at 8 and Rodwell at 10, but I might well be wrong. I also hovered over Lino at number 7 for that reason but I have a feeling Olly Russell signed for us with promises that he'd get a starting shot at finally leading a team around. And I do think Walmsley will get 2 (or 5), but might be out of favour after a few games. That's one of the big questions this season, but I love that Mills and Powell have covered it.
Totally understandably, there's some good discussion above about what our starting 13 will be, but that might not necessarily be numbers 1-13. I think Hall will get 4, and Scott will get a subs number but might well be preferred when the season kicks off.
I’m not saying anyone’s wrong. It’s just we are talking about Trinity and our squad numbers and recent history has our left winger as number 2 and left centre as 3 (Lyne wore 4).
Perhaps they don’t mean very much in the end. We can blame the club for this one being different
.
I was just more curious than anything I guess as I regularly see different combinations.
For Mckmeeken I too think he will start prop but I also think that he will do some moving between prop and SR as the season goes on. Though it matters not because he’s very good whichever position he plays. That last handful of games though convinced me that Vagana could actually make a good fist of second row.
For Walmsley, I think he will go well in SL. He’s fit, he can finish and I can’t recall even 1 single missed tackle last season. He also improved in bringing the ball out with his yardage the last 3rd of season. I see no reason that he can’t be a good standard SL winger. It’s up to him and a good pre season will help.
There’s a number of players who could force their way into the 17 if they have a strong pre-early season. Players like Roarke, Scott etc could easily find themselves regularly in first team if they go well.
I really can’t wait for the season to start.
