The academy struggled a bit last year and we didn't bring anyone new through (not really counting Bateman's single appearance).
Taking a step back it makes sense to give the job to Noble at the moment. Of the coaches that we know are available only Lingard looks to me like he'd do a good job. There's no way I'd want to recruit Grix.

Should be interesting, Nobby had his success as a coach at the Bulls, not so much elsewhere .... But he's someone i can easily get behind and I'm happy with the choice... Only time will tell.

A bit left-field, but if he was, as the announcement says, "had an increasing involvement in the last 18 months," then he either had to step up and become the coach or cease any involvement at all (to be fair to the incoming coach)
I don't agree with the lazy trope that "He interested Matty Ellot's team"—he developed that team over the years he was in charge. OK, he hasn't done much since, but he loves the club and will hopefully be refreshed by a few years away from coaching.
