Obviously not in the same league as Ben Flower, but still similar on principal.
The fact that Sky sports purposely did not show the replay and cut it off, was appalling in my opinion. (I was at a wedding, unfortunately so could not attend)
In fact. It was bent as a 9 bob note. Purposely trying to influence the course of the game
I’d agree with all of that - cynical and cowardly, and the gutless officiating because of the occasion.
As a RL fan of many years, I’ve learned to make a distinction between the way a player conducts himself on and off the field.
But in the case of Burgess, he’s completely consistent - a w***er both when he’s wearing a jersey and when he isn’t. Very glad he’s no longer at our club.
The environment seems so different at the club now to the one in the days of the likes of Burgess and Williams. There was that group of 5 mates (Burgess, Gildart, Sutton, Bateman and Williams) who just seemed to think of Wigan as a stepping stone to bigger and better things and that is unsettling (as well as ridiculous). It's been a positive in seeing that sort of mindset leave the club and to now have a group of players who seem to be fully aware that pulling on that shirt is a privilege not to be taken for granted.
It's very rare that leaving Wigan for any club is a step up.

Be interesting to see what the MRP make of it tomorrow, players have got hefty bans for trying to lift a player who's down. Giving someone a smack to the head you'd think should get the same.

Really good observation. Everyone who's interviewed now from Wigan reference the history and tradition of the club and wanting to form part of that history going forward. It's not just the younger players coming through but also the Aussies who traditionally would have been here for a few years to make their name then go back to 'bigger things' in the NRL and players from other clubs like Cooper and Leeming who recognise the special culture created by Peet and Rads and the special history of eth club - especially how they recognise, look after and involve past players. THat's they type of club I want to be at - where you're not just forgotten when you stop playing for them.
At the game, you could see Junior was out for the count immediately and i was top row of the stretford
however, i do think people are going over the top on Burgess. There were 3 HKR players who all dropped onto Junior, and in a split second i dont think they realised he was out for the count, and i dont think there was too much in it (i have watched the game back too). It took Hiku a moment to realise that he was out for the count as he was getting up

I don't think it was as brutal a strike as the Ben Flower one, but we're supposed to be in a climate where any deliberate head contact is an instant card.
Personally, I'm glad Budgie didn't get his marching orders, because that would have been offered as a reason for our victory. But it still needs calling out by the MRP.
Also, there was something a bit sneaky about it ... it was the ultimate cheap shot, so some degree of humiliation of the offender is required for that too.
As Sky Sports' behaviour ... well, that also needs an explanation (aside from them being well and truly on the Hull KR bandwagon), but I doubt there's any point in Wigan holding their breath.

I put the full replay of the coverage on this morning for the first time. They mentioned the Hull KR following 6 times in the first half hour of the programme. I'm not sure if any Wigan fans actually went to the game.
