I used to hate the games where the loser got a second chance, so I'm glad we don't have a format like that anymore. Also, although I did understand the reasons for it, with season tickets not being valid and people having to potentially fork out for two or three games in quick succession that were all live in TV, it was never a great look when the supposedly biggest games of the season were played in front of below average crowds.
This year though, we've had two big crowds and seen four teams playing like the season is on the line, because it literally is. Next week our game is nailed on to be a sell out, and I'm not sure how big Wigan's home support will be, but I'm certain Leigh will have the biggest away support any team has had anywhere for a long time, meaning two real big game atmosoheres are guaranteed.
Obviously I'm desperate for us to win, but it's shaping up nicely as the best series in a while.
The format is spot on now. No superfluous games, it comes down to who has got the bottle. We have (just about) managed the pressure of being favourite, now it is for Wigan and Hull KR to handle.
