MJ played to a very good standard in SL when he was allowed to play!
I think he had some good spells and he is clearly very talented lad. He also experienced some tough times in SL too.
Rourke has had a breakout season this year. He’s been outstanding in a very poor team. He’s been awarded the accolade of being the best player in SL in July.
No disrespect to Max, as I do rate him, but I don’t think you could realistically say during his time in SL that at any point he could be considered the best player in the comp over a 4 week period.
I do think that you have to be realistic in that Roarke has played 16 games in SL and not many more career games. He is a rookie. Early signs show a talented one. It’s also easier to stand out when playing in a part time and relatively poor team.
Comparing that to Max who’s 100+ SL and 150 Career appearances and entering his prime years off the back of a year where he’s been head and shoulders the best player in the championship consistently is not much of a comparison.
That’s not to say Roarke doesn’t have talent but he’s 24? And relatively inexperienced for that age standing out in a poor team.
I’m happy to have Roarke but Max is the better more experienced full back and Roarke could become a much better player by soaking up the parts of Max’s game that Roarke appears to need to work on (creating the space, the pass selection and organising defensive line).
I am happy to have both as options though. Good signing is Roarke but let’s not go overboard. The guy doesn’t need that pressure either.
