I saw a post on reducer a while back that wished that Leigh didn't treat this fixture as a derby, this was after our we embarrassed them in the last fixture.
I'd love for that to be repeated but it won't be that easy again. The manner of the defeat against KR seems to have lead many into a knee-jerk of pessimism but it many have been a blessing in disguise
Hopefully a solid win so we can watch Tom, Kai and the rest play for us for just a bit longer
Quite emotional too, would have been odd having to say good-bye to the players after a loss but that hasn't happened so we can shed happy tears.
A few brain farts in that performance, sadly all coming when we were (I think needlessly) down to 12 but we fought through them, perhaps a more cohesive team might have punished us more but Saints aren't that team this season.
Best game Asiata has played since he came back.
Ipape was a machine out there and I still don't know why we aren't keeping Ricky other than quota.
What a game. Edge of the seat stuff all the way. Not perfect ball in hand but still effective enough against a very strong on paper saints side. Our forwards were immense in attack and defence. Some massive minutes for some. Without wanting to tempt fate, I honestly think we have too much for Salford and will win next week. After that it will depend on how we fair for injuries and how much we have left in the tank.
First game was in 1967, and have been hooked since day 1. Now live in Vancouver, Canada but follow our team any way I can. “Up The Comics !”
Great result on Friday. The difference between the team's performance from the week before was like light and day. The lads were really on the boil against Saints.
As VL as alluded, they were far from perfect but their defence for 80 minutes, bar 2 moments when were were down to 12, was just brutal and awesome. We made the red vee boys look clueless in attack.,
The atmosphere at the ground on the night was electric. I thought it was absolutely rocking.
As someone who has watched this team over the decades play in front of modest attendances of just a few thousand I think that it is great to see so many fans turn up now regularly in such numbers for our games. It really feels that our fanbase is taking off as is the interest in the club's merchandise.
To top things off we had Derek's announcement and publication of the club's submitted IMG grading and his self asserted belief that IMG will approve a Grade A status for the club. If this bears out this will be an absolutely brilliant achievement for Derek and the club.
Lastly I want to congratulate the club on finally getting it right with regard to the announcement of the players leaving which was accompanied with some genuine heart felt comments of thanks from Derek, Chester and Lam and with return comments from the players themselves. Many of us have been crying out for years for the club to make this kind of farewell article for players who have left but who have served the club with distinction. Well done - at last!
And finally, finally, unlike this time last year when we entered the play-offs dead on our feet, with key players missing and short of numbers this time we enter with genuine momentum and form and with just about all our stars available. Salford watch out. The Leopards are on the prowl and I can see us winning on Friday. If we were going to play anyone of the top 6 away at this stage then Salford would have been my pick. Whilst there is no guarantee we will win we do know how to beat them. All things being fair and if we keep 13 on the park for most if not all the game then we win. Bring it on!
Leutele was sinbinned for contacting the head of St Helens winger Tommy Makinson, however, he has not been banned with the Disciplinary Match Review Panel deciding: “Contact is secondary and low force. Sin bin sufficient.”
We were in complete control until the sin bin. And even then, Saints needed mistakes (Pene offload, Moylan letting the ball bounce) to get back into the game. Not sure Makinson gets that try if Hughes doesn't slip either.
Then got back in control till we started dropping the ball in our own half repeatedly in the last 5 minutes. Was almost as nerve shredding as the Cup semi final and final last year.
