But maybe i will just listen to commentary on the Radio like you !

Might not be a bad thing for a while bud. Radio Manchester commentary vs Wigan was brilliant. Blunt and honest, not like radio Leeds which is too pc.
‘What are they trying to do’
‘Where’s the spine’
‘Do they know season on the line’
‘Half backs are clueless’

Had to agree with the lad!

The big exception is the crowds generated for challenge cup games in the 80's. Remember being at HQ with over 24k in for a 3rd round tie against Widnes ( we were well beaten) and also travelling to Central Park with (if memory serves) with 25k in. Again, we were well beaten.

I was at that game, we were trounced. The ground was absolutely packed, I think the declared gate was 24k , most people thought the gate was actually nearer 30 k. Might be wrong but I think mal reilly was our coach and Laughton was the Widnes coach.

It was just over 26k (official) biggest crowd i have ever been in at headingley, Easy win for Widnes but think this was the Phil Ford famous Cover tackle on Offiah

Can’t remember the ford tackle, we had decent season tickets in the north stand near to the front. First few minutes right on the touch line in front of us Offiah ran past Dave Herron, left him clutching air. Sadly it was downhill after that. Also remember Tait playing for Widnes.

It was, I was there and remember it very well. Offiah went down the North Stand touch line from about 5 metres from his own line, Fordy came from the other side of the field. Those who they were running towards say that Martin actually fell over his own chin which dropped at the sight that Phyllis caught him. Biggest cheer of the day by some distance.

It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.

Remember the CC Quarter Final at Widnes, think it was 86’ when Creaser kicked the penalty in the last couple of seconds to get a draw. Was on the pitch after like we’d just won the league! Sadly them days are long gone.

Bang on that Batley and exactly as I remember it
Me and our kid were stood on the eastern terrace that day and we got a birds eye view of Mavis (as fans on the Eastern terrace called him) bundling him into touch

I was a western terracer in those days, with my Dad. As soon as Phil set off, I pointed to him and said to Dad that he would catch Offiah. Dad gave me one of those looks that only a father could give his son, and when the tackle was made I returned the favour… Good times.

IIRC Offiah went nearly the full field in the second half infront of the South Stand to score.

Was that when he jumped on top of the big power box infront of the flood light to celebrate?
