Though it was scrappy it could still have been an enjoyable, close game if the ref himself wasn't having a stinker.
He was just too inconsistent and didn't have a good game. The number of times players were offside at a kick was just silly, Holmes getting penalised for standing next to the the man catching the ball as he landed even though he made no attempt at a tackle, headshots missed, five and last on the 4th tackle 4-5 times... the lad had a mare. And chunk the touchie? No chance of keeping up with play and missed so much himself...
Saying that, those last 15 mins we certainly didn't help ourselves, staggeringly slow and ponderous

The worst decision for me was when Souter was taken out after kicking through and he waved play on. It was a blatant foul. Made worse that Batley scored two mins later.

We've had that young ref a few times this year and I think he's done pretty well. Yesterday was a steep learning curve for him though with Batley trying to old man him. James Brown throwing the ball away on the 5th trying to buy a cheap penalty for instance. Thankfully he was a bit wiser to their shenanigans at that point.

There were plenty of dark arts on display yesterday. Lots of attempts to win penalties. I think the ref did ok overall given the game was a real dogfight.
