Marcus's Bicycle wrote:Agree with all you say but I think you are being harsh describing the signings as dross. Apart from Asiata and hopefully Abdull I would say the others although pretty average are an improvement on who they'll replace. Given that we are 11th and would have finished bottom in most other seasons we have a lot of catching up to do. Wakefield will be far more competitive than London and teams who we will be competing with at the bottom of the table will be adding to their squads as well. It's vital that we use the quota places to sign a high end Super League quality half a centre and a non quota forward. One positive is going forward is through necessity we have unearthed several quality youngsters who have the potential to be the core of the team for the future. I'll reserve judgement until the recruitment is complete but at the moment I'm not that optimistic that we will improve our league position.

Dross maybe a bit harsh, but baring Asiata, we have signed mostly players who can’t get in their owns sides, unless the last two quota spots are used on genuine quality I can’t there being much improvement in our league position. I was hoping for Lam as not only him being a great half back it would have still left us with two quota spots to play with as well.
Cust, Trueman and Abdul is a recipe for disaster injury wise.
I’ll reserve judgement but I don’t see much in the way of positives at the minute.

Hull
Walker
Abdul
Sullivan?
Cust

Salford
Brierley
Atkin
Sneyd
New hooker?

Leeds
Miller
Frawley
Croft
Ackers

Leigh
O'Brien
Moylan
Lam
Ipape

Huddersfield
Connor
Lolohea
Clune
Milner

I think Leeds & Leigh are better in the spine than us on paper but Salford and Huddersfield i think we could match them. Obviously there may be some new signings which may alter some of their spines etc

walker, abdul and cust are all sicknotes (and massively unfit in abdul's case) and we haven't signed a scrum half. Massive risk in relying on those 3 Cust isn't even a specialist hooker

i don't think it's any coincidence that Holmes, Borough and Cust haven't been getting a game since it was announced they would be leaving their respective clubs.
All 3 where in the starting 17's pretty regularly up until then (barring injuries)
As has been said many times, Myler was having to play catch up with recruitment when he was appointed so think he's done pretty well pesonally considering he's been fishing in a small pond so to speak.
All signings ( Asiata apart) might not have the wow factor which we all crave but they are all good professional's with experience who are also good people off the pitch ( Hardaker the exception :x ) and that is massively important moving forward.

Myler has said they are just about done with recruitment and they are pretty happy with where they are going to be at the end of it so let's just wait and see who they reveal.

I agree this could be a reality if what seems to be our annual halfback hunt ends in failure.

Not quite hand-wringing yet but serious quality is needed otherwise progress will be difficult to say the least.

No, He's a halfback who can cover hooker. Im pretty certain Abdull will be getting an off season programme and that he'll have to hit certain markers by the time pre season starts.

I don't think that is necessarily the case. Leigh and Salford are battling it out for play off places and you would imagine will play their strongest team irrespective of them leaving. Partington for instance has signed for Catalan but is still a regular for Salford. It happens at every club.

I do agree about Myler having to play catch up.

Completely agree with this, I don’t buy the line “he’s not playing because they are leaving”

All players still playing despite leaving. Only seems to some of the ones we’ve signed that aren’t

Johnstone
Davies
Makinson
McMeeken
Dodd
Nicholson
Asiata
Hall
Masters
Hardaker
Partington
Abdul

If rumours are to be believed he was given certain criteria’s to hit by Willie Peters and he turned up a stone overweight

I have a very radical solution for all our new players when all are announced and some won’t like it on here and I may run the risk of a ban.Why don’t we actually see how they play in the 1st FEW rounds as it will take a bit for them to gel before we start slagging them off and getting abusive about someone’s weight
