Dave K. wrote:OK, I should have said teams around us, Leeds, Leigh, Salford, Cas. Teams I think we could realistically catch next season. Broadbent signed 2 years ago, the twins one at the start, one mid season, so no recruitment for 2025, none of these teams apart from Burgess fir Hudds have signed an federation players of any note.

We had two choices, stick with what we had or bring in new players, think we have gone OK on the domestic front and looking at position and and timings of Myler etc, not sure how we could have done much better. Maybe someone like Corey Hall over Hardraker, but he he isn't exactly a world beater and we have lots of young players with potential.

But the market is poor thos year, particularly if you start late.

What else could the club have done, we tired for Sneyd, O Connor etc, but they wouldn't be released or choose to stay. Most players will choose other clubs over us sadly until we improve on the pitch.

I could have accepted the logic of the Leigh signings had the club insisted on 1 year deals with an option of a further year in the clubs favour.Whether that would have been accepted we will never know but two years is too long and restricts what the club can now do in the 2026 market when that season should have been when we started to breakthrough into the top six once again. We would also be in a better position to see who from the younger players will make the grade as regular S/L players.and who will fall by the wayside

I agree with what you say in terms of the length of deals handed out but if the club are deadset on players living more locally then there will have to be a trade off in terms of attracting players to do that and relocating without giving out ridiculous deals like we had under Clark. I doubt offering one year deals would have been enough and its probably a mixture of that as well as the monetary side of things too.
I'm sure if we offered way over the odds for a 1 year deal you'd get players but that would be mismanaging the cap once again. We just don't know the details or numbers in terms of the deals agreed for each signing but it would seem that the club are now being sensible in only offering what WE as a club value them as.

I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

Then they wouldn't have accepted the deal and we would be stuck with same players, not sure you have thought this through.

 Not exactly the same, he is 35 years old having one year at Catalans then back to Aus, that's his choice.

Who says we're not still mismanaging the cap with these new signings? With the current squad signed up for next year and supposed large contracts off the books in the likes of hoy, brown, carlos and houghton (maybe Ok and Pele too), we don't seem to have signed much in the way of quality to replace them so surely we can't be anywhere near cap currently with signings announced/mooted

sorry Chris i dont agree that the deals had to be longer to facilitate players living locally
The club have had to rent houses in the past so no reason why this could not have been part of sales package. We are way below cap anyway so renting a house or two for say£1000 per month is hardly going to break the cap.
Like i said 1 year deals with an extension in the clubs favour would have been far more sensible and we dont know whether it would have been acceptable to the players or not

That's Whitehead's choice to accept that.

We don't know the complexities of the contracts Hull have offered. They could be all sorts of clauses inserted or even reduced terms in the 2nd year.

The fact is none of us know and so there's no point getting out knickers in a twist over it.
Whilst not overly enamoured with our signings from Leigh ( Asiata aside) we must for now be patient and give Myler our trust and see what our squad looks like for next season.

Wonder if Rowley maybe the next Salford Coach to take the reigns at Huddersfield? Looks like Leeds and Huddersfield will now be battling it out in the Coach market.

I would have put my money on Rowley been Leeds next head coach, but allegedly Arthur is rumoured to be taking the Perth job when they get into the NRL in 2027. So maybe he’ll do 2025 at Leeds before returning in 2026 so get the Perth franchise ready.

There is reason we haven't signed top quality federation players, they either aren't available
, already signed elsewhere or choose to sign for a more attractive club like Whitehead

What exactly do you want Myler to do?

Nu Brown signed a one year deal at Hull and that went well didn't it.

Don't get so worried about contract lengths. How many players have left before the end of their contracts? Just in the last couple of years Evans, Griffin, Clifford, Hoy, McIntosh, Pele, Nu Brown, Jack Brown, Okunbor and Sutcliffe soon.
