Up to now it’s kind of recruitment and kind of players that a newly promoted side would generally make. We’ll be lucky to end the season with 6-8 points so we are effectively a championship standard side at the moment. It’s the reality of our financial situation as a club and the playing squad we currently have. You have to start somewhere and build our way back. Compare to Wakefield who have a backer pumping money in they’ve signed a couple of top quality players but still think they’ll have to bulk up their squad with a few more steady SL players like we’ve signed.
Unfortunately Cust hasn't been effective since he picked up an injury in the 2022 CC final. Hoped he would pick up his form at Salford but still looks off the pace.

I'm not convinced Wakefields recruitment is as good as people think, Mcmeeken is a brilliant signing, but not sure about a marquee winger.
Scott, Hall and Storton are OK, both probably squad players at Hull and Rovers.
Russell on a 4 year contract is brilliant work by his agent, very average halfback.
Look at their pivots, Jowett, Lino, Russell, Hood and Pitts, ok they might recruit more and its a positive they are spending, but think people are going a bit over the top on their recruitment.

Johnstone is the best winger in the competition and won't count for much on the cap like us with Abdul, Mcmeekan is a brilliant player too and one we should have gone for. I also think Lino is a decent halfback...With Wakey it'll depend on how their overseas recruitment looks to fully see how they'll go for 2025, but if they get that right, I can see them finishing above us
Corey Hall is a great signing for Wakey, totally wasted at Rovers but could go on to be a very good centre (not a second row though yet). He'd be a better option for us than Hardaker, especially given the lack of decent centres at the minute, hopefully Westerman and Dawson will break through in the next couple of years.

Lino is rubbish, had about 3 good SL games, you can have yhe best wingers in the world, but if your pivots are average you will struggle, depends on how many quota spots they gace.

New club new beginning with a coach he knows well…he hardly played in 2023 under the messiah peer and seems out of favour at Salford so maybe Cartwright can get best out of him.
