Rowley has worked wonders for sure. Losing Croft and Ackers would have been a hammer blow to many teams, but Salford are somehow just as competitive without them. I would say though that for Salford's sake he should stay there. I'd be terrified at the thought of him leaving if I were a Salford fan.
Having said that, bringing in an experienced NRL coach like Arthur would be very different to Rohan. He will have the respect of all the Aussies/Kiwis from his time at Parra, similar to Sam Burgess at Wire. He'll also no doubt have a clearer view of who might be available and do well in SL from around the NRL, and has experience of coaching a big club. The downside is that he didn't win a Premiership, but even on paper he never had the best squad in the competition.
I can't see past those two. Demetriou blew a lot of his credit at Souths, letting cliques build up and treating some players differently to others, which is why Burgess left.
Personally I'd go for Arthur. But would be happy with Rowley.
Holroyd's a prime example of why you need a big rotation of genuine props. Until last year he'd barely played more than a handful of games a year. There had been rumours of him being unhappy with Rohan as well?
Just on Cam Smith. He can be a 'good' ball handler when he's second or third receiver. He's utterly terrible when he tries to make plays happen. When he's out of form, which he is, he needs to just focus on banging the ball in. That's what the team needs, not someone who kills momentum. We had similar issues with Sutcliffe at stand off. Some players just cannot handle that role.
I am torn on Cam Smith. I think there is a good player in there who is just out of form. At this time I would just put him into the bench rotation and bring Corey on after 30 mins and move JOC to 13 for a spell. My bigger problem is that I’ve seen nothing on the field that makes me think he is a captain.
The last competent coach Leeds had was English, played to a high standard in England and was known as a 100% commitment player albeit for Bradford. When Rowley played for Halifax, when they were a decent SL team he was very much a 100% player. I’d like Leeds to give Rowley the opportunity to shine
I think the one thing this will do is raise morale amongst the fans. I never want my team to get beaten, but after the Hull game I was thinking, along with probably many more, this is probably the best result in the short term. Yes the new coach will inherit the same players, but at least we the supporters can feel we are at least moving in the right direction. Smith moves on with a pocket full of cash and we hope the second part of the season is at least bearable. I hate to think what the atmosphere could have been like on Friday if we had gone a few points behind with RS still in charge.
