Martin is one of, in not the, stand out performer for us in recent times. There is loads for Blease to do, but sorting this (if indeed there's anything in it) has to be at the top his list.

But we can't keep every player no matter the price. I'm sure we'd love to retain Martin at £x, but if he's worth significantly more to someone else then sometimes you shrug your shoulders.
I think he's been a really good signing, he's Mr Consistent, a good personality and fantastic goal kicker.
What he isn't though is the dominant middle/edge that I think Leeds need. Our entire go-forward can't just depend on two big lads on the pitch at a given time. The whole pack needs to work as a more dominant unit, and Martin is more of a chunky back row/centre than an outright physical animal.
Also we need to consider his age and whether his best years might be behind him.
He is one of those players that's very 50-50 for me: I can see all his qualities (and injury record which is fantastic compared to most of our players). I'm just not convinced he's the right player for what we need our pack to do going forward. Assuming Fus goes, we may still need 2 OS quota spots to bring that impact in physicality we need.

I agree Jim. I see players like Gannon and McDonnell as our steady away consistent backrowers similar to Martin. We need a Sironen/Fitzgibbon type backrower to compliment them. If we do lose Martin and I wouldn`t be surprised if he goes back to the new team in the NRL and replace him with similar to the aforementioned I would be quite happy.

We really could do with a big 2nd row to work alongside our more workmanlike other backrow options.
Cam Smith carts it up sometimes but I think a bigger back rower would take some pressure off the props - AND we need higher impact props. We have good workhorse options in Bentley and McDonnell.
Again, we are potentially very strong in the juniors at back row, there are probably three or four lads who look good enough for potential first graders to me, so we can afford to let a couple go and bring one OS player in for a year or two IMO.
