I don't imagine Smith will leave soon either. But if Blease is going to drive us forward, he needs to put pressure on the first team to perform, as well as looking at staff and player recruitment. We're first and foremost a sporting team on the field, and the performances of the first team drive so many things. I'd imagine one of the first discussions with Smith will/should be to the effect of "why are we playing so badly and what are you doing about it?".

ATEOTD its Blease's job to get the playing side firing, its his ass in the breeze if it goes sideways.
I liked what I heard yesterday, especially about leaving the Golden generation gubbins in the past and instead create a new culture and new stories etc. Its also great that weve finally got someone from outside the club to come in and cast fresh eyes on the playing side.

I don't know if it's just me but GH seemedto provide mitigation for how poor we 've been by alluding to the 'strength' of the competition (which I'd dispute) where as blease seemed more determined to emphasize that nothing below winning comps and being at the top is good enough.

Yes, I also noticed that, and was pleased that Blease seemed far less inclined to make his excuses in advance. It's just a shame that Richie Myler didn't get the job. At a time when we could all do with a laugh his "wheeling & dealing" over at Hull is increasingly Trotteresque.
