Wonder if the interest in Lachlan Lam from the NRL will have a bearing on Adrian’s future?

Bit contradictory saying the new coach has a "blank canvas" but we've also signed Asiata, hardaker, Holmes and potentially Satae and Abdul. Not sure I can be bothered with next year being the usual "the new coach needs to get his own team in place" lines that we like to trot out to justify underperformance again

I do hate it when people at the club make assertions that we are "top four". It just sets us up for a fall in my opinion. Although I do think he's maybe more alluding to the idea that we can be "top four" and challenge again with the way we are setting up. Still, just don't use those words right now.

Seems to be hinting that Grix is still in the mix. If that's genuinely the case, just announce him as the head coach now and let him start shaping up the backroom team he needs/wants. Don't create all this uncertainty and then turn around and say "Yeah, after all that we're giving it to Grix" because that will just feel like he's the fallback option which is hardly reassuring. He's here and he could be properly making his stamp on the club now instead of just trying to keep us ticking over as he's trying to do now.

Also a bit contradictory saying the coach will have a blank canvas given the signings we've already made or rumoured to have made. It's imperative that the new coach has an influence on our recruitment going forward.

Does he not imply structure wise we're a "top 4 club"? On the field we're garbage but it read as though he was talking about facilities etc.

Feel conflicted about singing players up. We need a squad for next year but I'd obviously like a coach to be having a large say in who we sign.

Looks like Rowley was our one and only target on the coaching front. We've got 2 weeks until the Cas game, plenty of time to appoint someone, even if they don't start until next year

It was the structure element with the facilities etc I was referring to when I said I felt that he was alluding (or implying as you say - good word!) to us being "top four".

It's definitely difficult with the recruitment. We have to make signings now otherwise we're going to be scrambling and panicking at the end. Something I think the club has been guilty of in the past. But if we don't have a new coach involved in that recruitment process then we are back to the "not his team" approach. Whilst it will still take time building "his team" regardless, I'd like to think we can make a start now as opposed to 2026's recruitment drive.

I agree that Rowley seems to have been the only real target. There's nothing in the latest article suggesting that they have anyone in particular in mind and are more trying to find out who might be interested. I'm hoping that's not the case and Myler's just been purposely vague whilst keeping his cards close to his chest.

I think we have potential be to a top 4 club, we have the stadium/facilities, fans and youth set up. It seems now we will be up there with the top teams in terms of salary cap spend.

Just the top 4 coach and team needed.

It's a fair point, that's why we need to get a coach in (or at least announced ASAP) to start making the rest of the decisions. Even if those players are signed, we still have probably 3 quota spots and a big chunk of salary cap, along with the potential to pay transfer fees.

For my mind with not being successful in getting the deal for Rowley done I think the ideal Coach for us now would be one that is not currently involved in the UK game. Due to the state of our recruitment and retention and the clean slate needed I feel an Australian Coach would be the way to go particularly as they'd be more likely to come with modern coaching methods for the modern game and also have a greater knowledge of players in the systems there that would greatly improve the standard of quota players.

I honestly don't think there are any standouts in the UK game that would really give us what the club needs. If we have some serious investment then use it wisely and on the important pieces and for me that starts with a top Coach.

I know its not that simple as top Coaches are not just sat on a shelf but it needs sorting sooner rather than later. I had heard Gleason could be an assistant to the next Head Coach in 2025 but don't know if that is genuine or not.

I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

Think Lam is the only one I'd take from SL that could be available, but like MW says I think he could be using Hull to get a better deal.

So think we have to go to the NRL and look for an experienced assistant, Cartwright is one that stands out for me and has been linked (although by a not very good journalist).
