Saints are still a decent side, and could still beat us on another day, but there's no reason to fear them now. They look like a team in need of a rebuild. There was a time when yesterday's game would only have felt safely wrapped up in the final few minutes, but to be honest, once we went 19-8 ahead, I couldn't see Saints scoring another two converted tries.
Just generally this 'next man up' mentality is really refreshing. Under Powell especially he would often talk about players missing etc and as a club - and a fanbase - for a looong time we've focussed on what players are missing for us having a massive impact on the game. Whether that was no creativity without Briers or no go forward without Vaughan.
The structure you attack with is really important, rather than relying on one specific person to create something from nothing - credit to Glees i guess?
Burgess just shrugging off players missing with the media must give the squad players much more confidence in themselves that they can go out and do a job. It helps of course having the younger squad players being able to do a job, but again they are being given experience and confidence by not shifting senior players about so we have the most experienced 17 out there, rather than playing a younger player in a specialist position.
I thought Jiffy was over the top criticising Dufty for the Saints try. The kick was covered by Ashton on the left wing & then it got a wicked bounce. Dufty dropped a high ball in the first half but otherwise he was fine. I do love old Jiffy though & even went to see him & had a chat with him a few years back (he loved his time in Warrington) but I'd give him some stick over that one. The FB cannot be everywhere & has to share duties with his wingers.

Hell yeah, huge credit to Gleeson. The difference in our attacking structure and threat level this year, compared to what went before, is like night and day.

I think the game will give our lads so much confidence especially good to see the younger lads holding their own in such company. I don't think Wood, Holroyd & Hayes (for example) would be expecting this at the start of the season.

We look organised and dangerous with the ball. Remember when all we had was a high kick to King under Price? Then under Powell nothing in the opposition 25m.
That gets me thinking what Powell must be reflecting on when he sees a display like that? All things happen for a reason though and perhaps Powell did his job by clearing out a lot of players and we certainly made a few excellent signings on his watch.

You can date this type of try back to c2010 when the rules were changed so that touching the corner post was no longer counted as being 'in touch'. Wingers, from all clubs, immediately started to practice their 'leaping salmon' technique.
