There’s no way that this appointment is not related to the incoming investment.
Myler will be protecting the investment as much as anything, and making sure it’s not being wasted. Let’s face it we don’t have a good track record in recent times. Having to pay another two off this week is a case in point.
Also, he might have a more modern approach to the game, and what’s currently needed.
It also wouldn’t surprise me if more than one investor was involved.

Heard Barmby and MKM also putting money in as well but also got told Malloy Walker off same source,so take it with pin check of salt

My thoughts are that none of you have clue about why hes appointed and how good he actually will be. Motu Tony had no expereince either. I mean plenty of you wanted an expierenced head coach and look how that turned out.

Playing ability has no reflection on a DoR role for a start.

So here is an idea, you wanted change and are getting it. Sit back, try and get behind it and be patient. When we have reason to moan then lets moan, until then buckle up and sit tight.

As said elsewhere anyone whose played an U11s rugby match has more experence then Pearson and Clarke.

That was the rumoured take over on Friday. Pretty sure AP specifically ruled out Mally Walker in his interview.

Maybe 1 thread ‘to rule them all’ ?

Adam is ‘re-energised’ although I don’t like the sound of not being
Energised !

IMO Myler gets the gig because he’s 100% linked to
a very obvious investor with CASH.

Head Coach - without any shadow of any doubt
it has to be a Aussie aged 33-42 approx who has
Maximum ambition but has worked in a Comp like
The NRL which is 20 years ahead of SL.

New players - wow where do we start ?
Albert Kelly was a GIGANTIC player in 16-17
Sneyd was a craftsman

How do we find players like that ?

What Id really love is a 6’ 2” 15st centre with pace to burn

We haven’t had a Centre that scores 18 tries a season for a long long time , if ever. Big fast centres are like your horses in
Chess ! You need them and they’re vital.

Let’s see what any new Head Coach thinks and
I am certainly of the opinion Adam is staying based
on comms that I’ve seen.

Could we finish 6th this Season or am I smoking
dried cabbage leaves ?

My take on it is this:

Adam Pearson Re-energised: Let's be honest, we've all lost energy where the club is concerned in recent years due to how things have been. I'm sure it's no different for our owner so I don't really see that as a problem. If the prospect of a change of direction and investment has re-energised him, I think that's great.
Richie Myler: Absolutely agree he's probably getting the job because of Thirkill which I am taking to mean that it's a done deal that he's on board. If it's just a coincidence, I'll eat my hat (someone will have to buy me one first though!) as it feels like such a left field choice otherwise considering he's still playing. Whether he's going to be any good in the job, who knows, but I will be keeping my fingers crossed and welcoming him to the club.
Head Coach: I don't think it necessarily has to be an ambitious Aussie from the NRL or anyone associated with the NRL. We've tried that route before (Hodgson, Gentle etc) and it's not worked so I don't think it's a guarantee of success for us. What I think is most important is that whoever the new head coach is and wherever they come from, he absolutely needs every resource he can be given with a full backroom staff and the max cap for the squad (including marquees). If we don't do that, we might as well already hand them a P45.
New Signings: I think we shouldn't get too carried away yet or expect too much, too soon. I would be quite happy with some short term deals until the end of the season, blood the youngsters, and just let the new head coach see what he can get out of the existing squad whilst our DOR targets longer term signings for next season and beyond.
Playoffs: Not a chance we're finishing in the playoffs this year and I will gladly eat another hat that someone can purchase for me if we do. Let's just let the head coach work on getting the players fitter, more cohesive, balanced and structured without any pressure this year. Start laying the building blocks so we're challenging in the long term.

Pearson has already dismissed Barmby and Walker as just rumours

Armavinit wrote:As I’ve just posted on another thread, I don’t see why Myler can’t do the job, that’s if he’s appointed, has to extricate himself from commitments at York first. At least 4 other clubs have youthful ex players in the role, notably Salford who pick up gems. Is Grix running the team for the duration of this season and a new coach coming in at the end of it? I’ll be disappointed if McDermott or Anderson get the gig. When is this speculated cash available? It’s all ifs and buts again. My mattress is well and truly strapped to my back but the next 3 weeks is a very pivotal period in the history of our club, get it wrong and I can hear the last death knell.

Pearson said three different things in that interview whilst committing to nothing:
1. If it's a domestic appointment, it will be quick.
2. If it's an overseas appointment, it will take some time (presumably sorting a visa and whatnot).
3. If Grix wins the next three games, he's in with a shot.

Thought the Grix comment was a bit tongue in cheek but could be a hint that we are looking overseas and they expect Grix to actually be in charge for a minimum of three games.

I'd rather Grix do it until the end of the year than rush an appointment.

This. Yes, if it's Myler and Thirkill there is a touch of nepotism involved but it's not like Thirkill has just won the lottery and knows nothing. The guys a successful businessman so he'll know what he's doing.

Agreed. I believe Pearson also said they had identified targets (two or three - might be confusing that with the investment talk though as Friday was too long ago!) so I just hope we aren't going for someone just because they happen to be available. I'd rather see us take our time, be smart, and make sure we have found the right person.
