The old culture excuse
The word nobody knows what it actually means but sounds good so some fans will buy into that excuse

It's the long term / no time limit thing from Smith that annoys me, and the fact Pearson and Clarke seem to go along with it, they should be demanding improvements every year like year 1, stop the 50 point hammerings, year 2 push for the top 6, year 3 push for the playoff semi finals/grand final, can't just take Tony's word that it'll all come good, he should be judged on success criteria like we are in our jobs

I'm one of those that will buy into that. One of the best signings for our club in the modern era has literally just come out said there's a problem at our club that has been around since well before Tony Smith came along. Even in 2017 with a playing squad of far better calibre than we have now we had back to back 50 point home hammerings.

I'll hold my hands up and say I am guilty of wanting it to work out for the coach at our club. I wanted it to work out for Radders in 2020, I wanted Last to be given a shot fulltime, I wanted Hodgson to turn into a top find, and I want Tony Smith to turn things around now and set us up for some better seasons over the next few years. I don't profess to be an RL expert (and you might be reading this thinking I am way off haha) but I have reservations of getting rid of Smith and bringing in another assistant coach not because I don't want all those problems you've listed fixing, but because people in the RL media who have far better knowledge than me are saying Smith is that man to change things.

What if AP thinks he is close to selling up and is leaving it to the new owners to decide Smiths fate? Either way the results should dictate that Smith can’t get an extension

Think they’d be hell on if he did. At a push I can see us only winning the remaining games v Cas and London. That’d be 5 wins all season. And that’s at a push.

At least advertise it and let Smith reapply for it rather than just giving him it, might motivate him to up his game for the rest of this season rather than just presuming he'll be here next year because he's got a long term culture club plan

Im not so sure theyd care in the short term. They are gambling on the clubs youth to somehow step up and become a great side. Time will tell on that front, Pearson comes accross as stubborn and the less the club get, the less he will give the playing squad.

I did hear that the plan was to nurture youth players on a lower end Cap for a few seasons, with the fact we wont be on IMGs radar to be relegated. Whilst the club guide through clearing some debts with the hope in two seasons time we will comfortably be able to spend at the cap and a marquee player.

Dont believe it though, for a start any half decent youngster I think will jump ship if the current trend continues.
