I have to say firstly that its not Smiths fault completely but I would be quite happy if he were to go because it simply isn't working. But who honestly can ever make it work.
It didn't work with Gentle (Players got rid of him) it didn't really work for Radford (Because a small group of senior players in 2016 got the rest by the scruff of the neck, otherwise it was average at best) Last did OK (just because he was one of the lads the players knew he was a short term fix and in the end they did for him) Hodgson was a sentimental cheap fix appointment (and allowed the malaise to continue whilst having no idea at all of how to stop it) and so we come to Smith (an accomplished coach who had been pretty successful at every club he has coached) but he's obviously baffled by it all.
So what is the common denominator? I'm afraid it has to be the malaise, Cancer, culture
There is something radically wrong at our club something spookily inherent in generation after generation of players and perhaps those who are up themselves need the short sharp shock of fans walking away from the club because the only thing that is working at Hull FC at present is the strength dedication and love of the supporters. All I can say is that after today's thorough humiliation against a team without a win and hindered by their own injuries, thank goodness there is no relegation this year, perhaps the players know that fact as well?? . So today an absolute shambles but next week a spirited performance and perhaps another in the Derby before the status Quo returns again as it always does.
Sean McCrae used it as an excuse - cancer culture
However he was lazy and his signings garbage
I’m sure our new overseas signings wonder what the heck they’ve
Signed up for
They must think we’ve gone back in time to the part time , have a smoke , era
When you look at it there are 2 big flashing signals in my mind
1. We’ve never appointed a World Class coach, aside from Brian Smith, who left after 2 seasons.Any coach that leaves us goes on to do literally NOTHING. What does that tell you ?Radford Last Steve Crooks Agar Gentle - the list goes on and on and on and on
Until we address this then we are consigned to mediocrity
2. Hull born players - I feel qualified to talk about this as having coached young working class Council estate lads for years. I was also invited to run the KR academy back in 2000 and helped out at the FC academy for a short while. Ive also watched youth rugby here in Melbourne as well as Youth sports in general in Australia and chatted to parents and kids etc in many sports due to my kids being involved etc
How many British Test team standard players have we produced in the last say 50 years since 1979 ?
How many times have our Youth teams been the GF winners ?
There is something about the mentality of young working class men and boys in Hull. It seems they lack some confidence. Is that because their parents and or teachers can’t give them that positive reinforcement with out pressurising them ?
I have my opinions on this but likely to get told to stop being judgy so I’ll reserve my thoughts.
BUT it is interesting that we can’t produce half backs but can churn out props !
When was the last time we produced a GB 7 , 6 or winger ?
It’s all very interesting to say the least - well I find it worthy of a discussion anyways
Smith will be gone soon - we won’t win again until London
