Allan Bateman, the best exponent of that particular art. I've not seen anyone better before him in P&B and afterwards.

Yes easy for the attacker to land on elbows and knees and get that quick play the ball - any pull of the leg in that position by the defender is immediately penalised by the referee - the rules have encouraged tackle height to increase significantly.
My son has been playing youth rugby for 5/6 years now certainly for the past few years they have talked about first tackler contact up top to wrap the ball up and slow momentum, second tackler to go up top and stop momentum, third tackler to clamp the legs and wrestle the attacker on to his back. Stops the offload, and delays the play the ball.
If you take the legs the ball can go anywhere from an attempted pass & momentum stops anyway ,plus you still have another 12 available defenders. Make RL attractive again .
This start to the season has been dire, even without the red cards fiasco. I can't believe no one at the top is banging on the drum about improving the spectacle to attract new fans. The best try I've seen this year has been from that Scotland RU winger in the six nations - that's how bad it's got!

I think the WCC was a spectacle and certainly high intensity. It would have done wonders for Wigan and growing their support base and raising profile. Other than that game I've only watched our 2 games on TV. I have not yet felt the irresistible urge to watch us live.

And this is what is killing the game.
Whilst holding down in the tackle has improved a bit this season, it still clearly goes on and is coached in. It is a major detriment to the appeal of the sport and some referees allow more than others.
It would be far more appealing to rid our game of this and allow attacking sides to be able to run at imperfect defensive lines with the chance that we may see more line breaks and flair.
Imo best tackle this season was nowhere close to a chest ball wrap.
It was against Williams when he was near chopped in 2. 1 on 1, and it quietened him down for what was left in the game, and not even the slightest attempt to make an offload during the tackle.
