Indeed, its clear more people turn out when the stadium is somewhere different to the norm and near a city centre (that was the main issue with Anfield)

Id like to see Everton's new stadium considered when it opens, if Magic lasts that long

IMG didn't choose the venue, the RFL did that all by themselves. It's amazing how many people are blaming IMG for things out of their control.

It does strengthen IMG's opinion on the weekend needing to be scrapped, though.

IMG: Scrap magic weekend

Rfl/clubs: No we like it, it brings in money and fans like beer, we're going to ignore you

IMG: Ok no worries, hey why don't you consider hosting it at Elland road?

RFL: What a brilliant idea, the fans will love it being so close!

....the fans don't love it

IMG: scrap magic weekend

Did IMG suggest Elland Road? Or did the RFL plan it for too late in the year, panic when no football ground wanted to know, and opted for the easy option?

IMG are wanting to scrap it because it costs the RFL too much to host. The RFL have asked IMG to make them more profitable, and to help reduce unnecessary expenditure. IMG see Magic as an unnecessary expenditure that benefits neither the RFL, nor the clubs, in its current format.

The only people who benefited were the fans. And even they are not happy with it now.

I personally think they are correct.

Whilst its an entertaining weekend of rugby and a weekend away, its just a gimmick that doesn't really add much value. Sure it might add a couple of casuals in a random area of the country but that's it really.

I think the old argument used to be about taking it to a different part of the country to try and grow fanbases outside of the M62 corridor. The problem is though its hard to grow fanbases when there aren't a good local professional team to support. Now that is in Leeds even that redundant idea cannot be justified.

For a magic round with multiple games? absolutely not.
There is more round Elland Road than you may think (though admittedly your walking 10 / 20 mins plus)
Peacock will be rammed, Maccies will be rammed.
The only hope is that the land to the side of the stadium is converted into a major fan area replete with stages bars etc

is winstons walking distance from the ground?

Personally love magic weekend. It's a great weekend but we need more going on around the ground. The fan zones and half time/between match entertainment have been poor for years. Doesn't need to be expensive stuff either. Mascot races competitions etc cost next to nothing. Market it properly and it would be a success.

Don't like the venue choice this year. Best one for me was Edinburgh (though I know I'm in the minority). Hopefully they can sign a multi year deal with a stadium as fans that go live it. Clubs use it to increase season and casual membership numbers.

Kick off times are out, seems a late start on the Saturday though I guess they are assuming most of the final game crowd will be Rhinos.

SATURDAY, 17 AUGUST

2:30pm – Hull FC v London Broncos
5:00pm – Wigan Warriors v St Helens
7:30pm – Warrington Wolves v Leeds Rhinos
SUNDAY, 18 AUGUST

13:30pm – Leigh Leopards v Salford Red Devils
4:00pm – Catalans Dragons v Hull KR
6:30pm – Huddersfield Giants v Castleford Tigers

Also a watchout that if your club is in the South stand they are keen to point out you cant move between Upper, Lower and Corner sections.
