It would have been nice if he'd carved out a spot in our prop rotation. But he had different ideas about his preferred position and the amount of game time he deserved.
In terms of positions/prospects, James McDonnell was far more consistent for us in the back-row last season. As a prospect, Gannon fitted in better than Walters did in his first season in the first team in the same position. At prop, Walters was always going to be behind quite a few players but if he 'wanted it' in that position he could have potentially pressured the likes of Holroyd and Oledski in future seasons.
Having seen Moz play for Leeds as a youngster in the 1990s there's no way Walters has hit that level yet. Apart from maybe the dodgy shoulder he got away with in the win over Saints

We can only be fair to players and do our best with the culture and support we give: if they disagree with the position or contract terms etc there’s not much we can do really.
Back on topic does anyone expect more signings now before season start?

Id say Gannon has more chance of replicating Morleys trajectory.
Morley was arguably the best forward in the world at the same as Walters us now, Walters played about 40 super games
He’s not in the same class and never will be.
He’s gone elsewhere because he didn’t want to play for Leeds anymore. He’s not the loss some are making out.

Walters is a bad bad loss. Keep Donno ? Has anyone on this forum played Rugby League. Players like Walters with size, pace, hands and some aggression are the ones you want to be in your team.

Regardless of position Walters strengths will always be strengths; tall, awkward, reasonably fast and a decent line runner. However, his weakness will always be a pronounced weakness; very vulnerable in defence against quick players who change direction. If the Pies play him in the 2nd row he will certainly be a target, and I think that's why Smith thought prop would suit him best. That was a correct assessment in my opinion. Shame he disagreed (from our point of view) but that's the way it goes.

Donaldson won't get many games this year unless we're unlucky with injuries. Goudemand is an upgraded version. Given their respective salaries retaining Bentley is a much bigger call and impact on the cap.
