The issue is Ackers is pretty much an 80 minute player, and given the current situation with concussions etc O’Connor is probably far more useful to have on the bench.
I like Johnson but he is at the point where he needs to be playing regularly.

FWIW I think Johnson and O’Connor are the same age, Rohan seems to prefer the defence of O’Connor over the distribution and pace of Johnson,
Johnson didn’t really get a chance at 9 last year other than 10 15 min spells when the pack were already beaten . Played more in the half’s without ever training there.
Will be interesting to see how the season starts with them.
Looks like I’ve hit a nerve with the fanboys, i’m not bashing him I see it as it is, you just cannot accept he’s not the super star you thought he was going to be. Had loads of game time last year and couldn’t force his way as starting 9. And yes he is older than O’Connor by 9 months or so.

Writings on the wall as far as I can see. Dwyer and leeming leave in the space of a few months yet his career has remained all but stalled. Sometimes the right window simply isn't there regardless of potential.

I don't know which way he will go but you can't underestimate the time he had away from the game and the impact that has had. Who knows how both he and O'Connor will develop in the off season with the positive influence of ackers too.

I've never said Johnson is a superstar. I think he has the potential and the attributes to be a very good 9. I don't think O'Connor does. O'Connor is a good player and a decent back up 9, but I think Johnson is the better bet as a starting 9 in the future. But fully understand if he wants to be starting now and sees his future elsewhere, given that he has missed a couple of years from the game already.

He also added that if they could coach that occasional lack of ball retention out of him he has the strength and pace to bag a try or three.
Have to say I don’t understand this potential signing. Olpherts is an average height, stocky, strong ball carrier with errors in him and 1 year left. Kershaw sounds very similar. We have Roberts. Simpson and Momirovski who could play wing if needed. Why sign another player who is not good enough and waste more cap on probably a 2 year deal. Just keep Olpherts, see if he is better next year and if not let him go.

I think Kershaw would be an upgrade on Olapherts, and a 2 Yr deal means we can replace Fusitua in 2025 with an overseas prop.
