I think its pretty pathetic and annoying the club is asking for volunteers again. Not only is it terrible business its a lie to the people who do volunteer. I can imagine people going to it on the premise entry to the game is free. But the ability to see a full game is not viable . Turnstiles and car park staff are not going to shut or stop working at kick off. Unpaid staff will not have the skills or capcity to deal with difficult situations.are they gonna be first aid trained, fire marhsall health and safety, crowd safety.
The argument the club cant afford to pay these people is equally grim. As its a circle of issues if you cant afford to pay them what you doing about it? How are you trying to raise income to afford it? How are you increasing your engament with the community?
I'm a little mystified why you are so peed off by it. The reality of being in the 2nd tier of a very financially perilous sport, is the need to ask supporters to step up. Depending on where we are in life, and our circumstances a lot of us have the ability to put something into the club we love. Be that BullBuilder, volunteering, pitch clearing, squad booster.

I think if you're volunteering to see the game for nowt you've missed the point of volunteering and are doing it for your own benefit not that of the club?

So a club that has players on up to £350,000 per week takes advantage of starry eyed suckered to save a few miserly quid. That old Yorkshire saying comes to mind...If tha duz owt fer nowt, do it fer thi'sen.

Agreed, it does seem perverse to not pay ground support workers, when the first team squads of the Premier League are paid the eyewatering amounts reported on websites like this: https://www.spotrac.com/epl/payroll/ When viewed against such obscene amounts of remuneration, it puts the level of our sport into context - skint ! Which is all the more reason why we should applaud the guys who weekly smash their bodies to pieces to provide us with sporting entertainment. Christmas rant over, The Grinch wishes everyone on the forum a Merry Christmas and a successful 2024 to whatever team you may support
