Magic Weekend 2024 To Be At Elland Road There was shock, and a fair helping on consternation, as Elland Road in Leeds was today announced as the venue for the Magic Weekend in 2024.
While there was confirmation over a month ago that the jamboree would be going ahead again after it was initially suggested that it would be dropped from the calendar in the IMG shake-up, it was widely expected to return to Newcastle and St James´s Park after the success it had in hosting the weekend earlier in 2023.
Six Super League games will take place over the weekend of the 17th and 18th August with a stadium steeped in rugby league history hosting all the matches staggered over the Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Victim of moving dates.
TBF its all a little disappointing the concept is going out with a whimper like this.
Always been a fan of the concept and mixing with all other teams fans in a "weekend away" setting has always (chicken cottage Newcastle 2017 exempted) been good humoured and very good.
Cant help but this has been set up to fail and done to finally kill off the round.

It's a reflection of the way the game has been run these last 10 years,,, it had the potential to be a great event for many decades to come but though it's had it's moments of brilliance they have failed to build upon it and cement the event. it's been dying a death for the last 5 years or so. For me, we need to concentrate on giving the challenge cup a big boost but also we must promote the game away from the heartlands... how we do that successfully in the longer term god only knows with the small amount of money in the game at the moment..
I’ll be going as it’s on the doorstep, but I think it’s a seriously flawed concept. There’s no way an extra game plucked out of the sky can ever be fair, and teams missing out on a place or two in the league ( or even being relegated) is an absolute joke. I’ve had my fun over the years when I was drinking like a fish, but that was the wrong reason to look forward to an event. There has always been an increasingly nasty and violent undercurrent depending on where you put yourself at M.W, and I’m more than happy to see it bite the dust.
