I seem to remember a charity game at Wilderspool, probably mid 70s, or maybe I'm just imagining it. Among the regulars from Corrie, I'm sure Sir Bobby made an appearance as well as Rod Stewart. From what I remember, hoards of teenagers were being prevented from invading the pitch until the thin florescent yellow line broke and Rod was mobbed as he fled the playing area. I heard his Roller was damaged by people scratching messages into the paintwork. Was I dreaming?

Yes I was at the game in the fletcher end and Rod Stewart played centre forward for one of the teams and did score a goal as I remember they used the rugby posts as goals, and he’s a massive Celtic and Man Utd fan, was it really 70’s? Rod was quite. Good player like a fox in the box with a bit of pace

I think Knighthoods stay its the three ranks of the British Empire which are promotions, (CBE, OBE, MBE in that order) so you can have Sir Bobby Charlton CBE and Sir Paul McCartney MBE.
