Not heard anything other than him following Matty Lees on Instagram. But he also followed Warrington and has a wolf as his profile picture., so not sure we can read anything into that.
I have to admit to having ideas about where Matty Russell could play. When we used to scoot all the time under Smith ... I thought why doesn't he just play hooker or loose forward for 15 minutes every now & again. He was good at FB until that horrible tackle v Widnes. It looks like he can't pass. So he's a prop. Funny shape for a prop. But he runs much harder than lots of props. I have seen lots of props, who look the part but are useless. So why can't he play prop? I'd shove him there for 10 mins & see how we go. Anyway he's a handy boy to have around. It's good to see him suddenly loved.

This is nothing against Russell - I really like him, wholehearted unassuming player and I’ve learned to love him….but…..6/7 years ago he epitomised to me what was wrong with the last couple of seasons of Smiths tenure. We were a scoot-a-thon side and it was horrible to watch, really horrible. Now we see Russell as invaluable due to his metre eating. Super League was always heading this way but it’s hitting rock bottom. Wigan are lauding King and Miski for their ‘gains’, think of the centres and wingers we were watching 10-15 years ago….makes me weep.
Conclusion - I just want to see more of the Connor Wrench’s of this game.

Yep ... and same here. But I'm not sue we'll ever see it. Lots of centres would never have got anywhere near scoring his try v Saints but he need lots of space & in most big games you don't see much.

Russell has been far better this season, decent kick returns and seemingly safer under a high ball. But I've never, ever seen him beat a man for pace or footwork the way Wrench, Thewlis or Ashton have on numerous occasions. As others have said, a good honest hard working stand in where needed but no more and no less than that.
