From a Cas fan, in peace. I just cannot understand why Powell wasn’t a success at Wire, when he got Cas playing arguably some of the best rugby of any team in the SL era, with a set of average players. I’m biased of course, but the rugby played under his tenure for you was a million miles away from the Cas rugby of 2017.
Were the players he had at Wire of his choosing?
Do the club’s problems run deeper than just the head coach position?
I just find it bewildering!!!!!
I know that Cas (and previously Fev) bottled it in big matches but at least he created a huge team spirit and attractive rugby at both clubs compared to when he was with you.

My guess is that, if Wakey are to get back into SL by building a team that plays attractive, and expansive rugby, then Powell is the ideal coach for them.

1st season he had a squad that wasn’t his but massively underperformed. He got rid of Mike Cooper as a bad apple. Coops had played under any number of coaches and there had never been a hint of this previously.
I suspect that Powell didn’t take kindly to having his methods questioned even in a considered manner. He also built up a squad at Cas that had been “rescued” and therefore offered unstinting loyalty to him.
His second season was his squad, either signed by him or given contract extensions. Reading between the lines he may have been trying to be too clever when you read about players not understanding the role they were meant to play. The favouritism he showed Matautia also played a part!

Just my opinions unless it's a FACT, in which case it's a fact.

In hindsight, Powell was the right man at the wrong time - If he had took over instead of Price in 2018, coming off that fantastic Cas campaign, then it's possible he'd have fared a lot better. As it was, it's fair to say he had already run his coaching race by the time we eventually got him - he'd gone stale at Cas and was unable to revitalise both himself and us.

I do think that Wakefield will be perfect for him. Familiar area, players who have everything to prove to a guy who has achieved more than most of them ever have and now has everything to prove - Smells similar to when he went into Cas... I think they have chose well.

And so you aim towards the sky,
And you'll rise high today,
Fly away, Far away,
Far from pain....

I heard Daryl was devastated when he came this side of the hill and found we like our fish and chips....Cod and chips cooked in oil....He was used to haddock and chips cooked in dripping. Could explain why he looked so miserable most of thetime.

I do wonder how he would have fared here if he had a younger, raw side with players who had achieved less on less money. I think that's where his strength lies. I have no idea what sort of coaching character we need to fix our side and this culture, and that's why I'm prepared to give Burgess a chance. Seems we've tried all the traditional avenues.

Agree with that summary except for the Cooper bit, as soon as he barged Price he needed to go, great servant to the club prior to that but that was a step too far. So I don't blame Powell for getting rid.

Two of the players he brought with him massively underperformed. One is still with us and one went to leigh.

Didn't all three turn out to be underwhelming?

To be honest I thought he was a decent appointment at the time and had liked the rugby he got Cas playing which was certainly more attractive than the turgid rubbish we saw, for the most part, under Price. I thought now with the greater resources at his disposal the sky is the limit, GF win here we come. His early comments about the need to tweak the attack seemed on the right path. Watching then what actually transpired with a 'thrilling.....not' relegation battle it clearly went horribly wrong and he had to go. I guess we will have to wait for his book to possibly understand the what's and the why's.

Anyway, onwards and upwards and welcome to Warrington Mr. Sam Burgess.
