did he break the rules ? yes
is it his responsibility to decide if a player is injured or not ? no
is it a good idea to drag a player up who is possibly injured ? no
is this the way most contact sports are going ? yes
if we want our sport to continue then we must change the game to make certain aspects of the game as safe as possible this is one of them measures, we have ward retired early josh jones too due to concussion injuries. being stupid and saying they knew they could get injured so there should be no safety measures put in place to protect the players as best they can.
I think everyone is behind player welfare and protecting the players, it's about how this applied that grinds my gears, and giving appropriate sanctions and the inconsistent nature.
You mentioned concussions (I'd also add Lachlan Coote and Kevin Brown, and a number of others). So how come Tommy Makinson has five instances cited for high tackles (yes I know only one was charged but five made contact with the head) he gets a fine. Whereas Vaughan tugs at a shirt of a player returning to his feet obviously taking the mickey and gets 4 games four games. I've said before the previous precedents (SKD, mata'utia) are not the same action (SKD had just clobbered him with a high shot so there was potential to be injured. Levi was on his back making no attempt to get up). It just sends out the wrong message and the priority is wrong however good natured the intent.
