Firstly welcome Liam as our new coach, and i will give you at least a couple of games before calling for your head. And as Listenup said i am too intrigued by what Richard Durgan said in his interview regarding some off field appointments to be announced soon to help Liam fulfill his potential. I wonder if it could be a director of rugby being brought in which will be of help to Liam, and if Simon could of had someone in a similar role that would of helped him too during his time in charge.

Surely an expense Fax cannot afford. Not a great believer in a Director of Rugby anyway. Rather than having someone telling Liam what to say to the players, this Director may as well tell them direct, cutting out the middle man so to speak.

Time will tell Tony i could well be wrong but it does sound like these off field announcements are being made to help Liam, make of that what you will. And just out of interest as anyone on here heard any of the names of the people who we spoke to about the coaches job.
I think Ian Croad used to fill the role of Director of Rugby or similar until the new board took over and his moving away from that role coincided with our signings going a little off track. I believe he helped get the signings of AOB and Crooks over the line though so maybe he is back involved. As enthusiastic as Richard Durgan seems to be that role needs to be filled by someone with experience and it would make sense for Richard to shadow someone in that role until he gains that experience.

I totally agree. Some things are worth copying but that's not one of them. A waste of money.

I actually agree with you on this one , when I first saw and listened to durgan at one of the fans forums I was a little disappointed with his demeanour and communication skills especially with croad been such a smooth operator. Maybe it was just nerves as durgan has appeared better in recent weeks.
When the new board came in the announced Karl Harrison as an ambassador for the club, no idea what that means but I haven't seen or heard from him since.
I was told by a reliable source that they attempted to make him Director of Rugby but Grix refused it. I hope its not the case that now Finn is in charge they are visiting that again. Need new ideas not old legends.

It May just be an announcement of who is going to be Liams assistant coach and conditioner. In the past few years the team looked their fittest when Scott Grix was doing that with them.

I also heard that Harrison would be Director of Rugby "by the end of the season".
Not seen anything of him myself, but I believe his role is to meet and greet, talk to sponsors on match days in hospitality, similar to what Eorl Crabtree does at Huddersfield, it gives a "face" for the club in these areas and makes it a bit less corporate-y
Can a registered players agent hold the title of Director Of Rugby at a club? I'd imagine there would be quite a conflict of interest there.
