I like him, but he isn't the most durable of players so can understand why we've not renewed him.
Who's that leaving/gone then?
Swift
Clifford
Satae
Dwyer
Griffin
Evans
Lovodua
Shaul
Wynne
Mitch?
Houghton?
Taylor?
Some rebuild
Almost a half decent starting 13 there though with Savelio it would be a 13.
Trying to look at it objectively the majority of players leaving have in the most part been ones that have dished out the poor performances over the last few seasons. it’s been a squad at or near full cap that consistently failed. So it’s something that needs doing and as fans we’ve been critical of the club over sentiment and not moving players on at the right times etc.
TS has come in and obviously had seen the issues from the outside and then seen it first hand when he was appointed. Now he’s wielding the scalpel. In honesty we knew it wasn’t going to be pretty and a lot needed to be changed. Though I think seeing the scale of the job when the list of players going has probably surprised us all as to the numbers leaving.
I’m not sure that the club would release/not renew players if they didn’t have suitable replacements to come in.
Cooke has said that he knows some of the signings the club have made but won’t name them but says we as fans won’t be disappointed. I see no reason for Cooke to say something like this if there’s no truth in it particularly with his links to TS and the club.
As others have said I’m only really bothered about Swift & Clifford on that list. Satae would have been nice to have kept but does go missing more than he’s on it.
I suppose with the lack of news on incomings being closely guarded and the small player pool it probably doesn’t help to ease fans possible concerns. At the end of the day it would cost the club & AP an awful lot more if the team was reduced and way under the cap in term of its fan & sponsorship base so not sure that’d be the case. .
I don’t think the club helps itself at times with its communication to fans etc.
I’m just glad Mahe has signed for the Mackay Cutters as it rules that one out
