Saints were in 7th place in the league when he joined in May 2017, having just been beaten 53-10 by Castleford in the CC.

We need someone now. We're still in the play offs (just!). This is the most open SL for years. Saints and Wigan aren't what they have been, we've proven we can get the better of Catalans on our day. I feel like we would be missing a massive opportunity not bringing in a top class coach (ala Holbrook or Maguire etc) externally this season. Who knows what can happen in the play offs? I'm not suggesting we can win it but look at Leeds' last year and their new manager bounce - they were 80 mins away from winning the Grand Final.

Correct and 2 years later they finished top of the league by 16 points and won a Grand Final. He then left them setting them up to win the next 3 Grand Finals. He's an outstanding coach.

Yes, but for Saints, in the grand scheme of the last 30 years, that was a blip - We are a perennial laughing stock.
Saints were always going to come good again, while for us, if we were to ever reach the heights they have achieved, it would be absolutely momentous and almost unprecedented.
I think some of us perhaps overestimate our standing in the game - A club that hasn't won a title in 60 odd years can't really compare itself with the Wigan and Saints of this world - it's like Newcastle fans comparing themselves to United or Liverpool.
And so you aim towards the sky, And you'll rise high today, Fly away, Far away, Far from pain....

In the main area I feel we are turning a corner, the youth system feels much better organised, the junior game in the town feels much more supported and we have the top men Moran / Middleton / Lomax investing in an academy Aus trip.

Exactly. We should not be writing off this season yet.

Very true but on the upside comparables could be drawn with Man City just at the point they appoint Mancini...
