The gist was that with the money we've thrown around we could have established an elite academy tasked with signing the best youngsters in the NW, Britain and Europe and bringing them through.
I was reminded of it in the Saints Leeds game where it was mentioned that young Walters was originally from Widnes.
Replacement of Powell needs to be the catalyst for bigger changes within the club, management structure and approach ...... and we all know how we kickstart that.
I think I brought it up on my 'How Important Is The Coach' thread...

As always seems to happen when a coach is sacked, performances will improve whoever comes in.
With that in mind I would happily let Chambers run the show this season and take a cautious, well researched approach to appointing someone new. As I have said before, root & branch changes at the club for me, new CEO, new director of rugby, new 1st team coach and lurking in the background, a bloody good sports psychologist to sort out our basket case of a club.

Brian McDermott Director of Rugby ? Controversial, speaks his mind which was not always good for the camera as a coach but behind the scenes I could go with that.

I really have no idea who I want. I don't follow the game with vigour I used to. Home games moved to a Saturday and then a Friday in recent years. I loved Sunday games, but the club isn't run for my benefit.. None Wire games just seem to pass me by (bar last week's CCSFs, and the odd notable game).
Wane probably doesn't want the job, and the only 3 people I can recall from Australia are Cooper Cronk, Mal Meninga and the lovely Ms. Sampson.
The only thing I DONT want, is someone with Wire connectors. "Oh, so'n'so knows the club, he'll be great" is exactly the kind of person we need to steer clear of. We need a new broom. Get rid of the jobs for the boys mentality this club has always had.
We need a fresh start (yes, I know Powell and Sheridan had no connection, but I didn't want them in the first place)

Trigger has got a new broom…………….. sorry couldn’t resist il get my coat.
Apparently Chambers and Marshall both knew they would be taking over from DP and Jigsaw, quite sometime. Which fits in with DP knowing he was knocking on the exit well before last night.

If that's the case then I'd query why the change wasn't made after the cup exit or the cas defeat? At the very least 2 games ago with the cup break to get a head start.

The drag out is the terms. DP wasn’t going to go cheaply. He wanted his full contract, and Wire wasn’t willing to pay it.

If this is true, and it's a big if, that's an appalling way to treat the incumbent coach. Seems as the Sword of Damocles was hovering for a few weeks.
Why not make the decision after the Wigan CC game and be decisive.
Again if we have limited company board members talking to our resident taxi driver and fog horn about Powell's future it is so unprofessional it's untrue.
