Just what the team needed to build a bit of confidence, very cautious start with priority obviously being cutting back on the mistakes, with ultimately a very convincing win against admittedly very limited opposition. Would be very surprised if JWH fit for next week - in his place Pickersgill had a very steady game without understandably having the impact in attack that JWH has. Lannon again looks really effective when he comes on, Brandon Moore looked more effective than in recent weeks coming on against a tiring defence. Crooks also had most effective game I've seen him have but difficult to really judge when Newcastle so poor. And finally Walmsley again scored 2 tries that he looked to have no right to - he may not be the most complete winger I've seen in a lot of years watching Fax- but he is probably the best finisher I've seen here.
Got the job done by scoring most of the points in a couple of purple patches were we made it look easy and them look very poor as we should be able to do. Around those spells i thought it was a poor quality match from both sides making some very basic unforced errors. And i do not get all the fuss around Crooks on our facebook page yes he contributed to a score yesterday with a nice flick out pass to Walmsley but his defence since joining us as been poor and isn't that the reason Tibbs and Maizen have been dropped i would much rather have Jake in the side from a attacking point of view because neither of them are the best at defending. These next 3 games for me are crucial to our season overall obviously the cup game speaks for itself with what's at stake and then Sheffield away and Featherstone at home in the league will give a lot better indication as to were we stand in the pecking order.

A very fair assessment that. I would add that Tom Inman was a well deserved MotM closely followed by Matty Gee and a much improved Will Calcott. Rat & Ratchet shuddersfield, White Rat 4.0% Mmm!

Great result for the team. Some really great tries in there too.
Just a shame the atmosphere was terrible. The self titled “South Stand Barmy Army” were non existent. I get people are p*ssed at Grix but at least create a bit of an atmosphere for the players! 50 point winning margin and all we got was silence. What’s happened to that lad with the drum?
That is something that i forget to mention was the atmosphere and attendance. I think we are pretty split at the moment as a club as to what is wrong and the best way to deal with it. And it was clear yesterday with the poor atmosphere and equally poor attendance that some people me included but i will still attend all games this season are not happy and do not appreciate any questions being made about Simons position as coach being shut down with personal insults and questioning our knowledge of rugby league. We all care about this club and want what is best for it so for me whatever your opinion is you are as much as me entitled to it. And before anyone says something about the abuse aimed at Simon i do not condone that at all and will call it out when i hear it.

Ww started off with 2,150 against Sheffield. That was only going to improve if results and performances were good. A missed opportunity in my opinion but you can't win 'em all!

You can't blame the "fringe" fans from choosing the likes of Newcastle as one to miss, if they pick and choose their games, especially after such a poor display at Batley. £17 to £22 isn't great value for money (especially when folk are looking after their pennies) against such poor opposition who don't bring ANY fans adding to the drab atmosphere - there's nobody to bounce off!
As for the match itself, I thought our defence was top drawer, conceding to 2 grubber kicks, against a big pack. Certainly didn't look like the players weren't playing for Grix. Inman hopefully has made scrum half his own, so much more lively and creative than Wood, and no coincidence penalties conceded were very few with no Tangata. Lannon continues to be our best forward (obviously missed at Batley) and I thought Crooks looked good.
Hopefully can now kick on and do the job on Saturday and then onto moaning Mark the following week and everything rosy again.

Tony fax on the wing cos salty has completely lost his pace , ometoe in at hooker has like he says I don’t know how Moore gets a gig . Maher looks like he’s been signed by king cross under nines so can’t see him playing. I think crooks is a waste of space so I’d get hudd shay in at centre on duel reg . This on toilet paper looks like a winning team . UTP
Best post I have seen on here. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but this forum is down right depressing.
The club hasn't got a Beaumont, so we aren't going to be signing players like Lam, Asiata etc
Get a reality check and support the club as it is.
After time to consider my thoughts and read other peoples opinions here is my tuppence for what it is worth. The game was probably the least exciting and inspiring I have seen for ages. The lack of atmosphere certainly did not help but the quality was very poor too. Newcastle started ok but soon fell away and tired later on which then flattered our scoreline. We did the job but tougher opposition ahead.
My thoughts on the team on the day: Pickersgill did what he does, safe and steady with a hint of pace. Salty was Salty. Crooks was not the threat I thought he might be and defence was suspect. Mcomb was all energy and enthusiasm and once again played above his weight. Walmlsey did exactly what he does best just coach him how to defend. Inman was superb, I hope he can do the same against better teams. Jouffret had more room than at Batley and made the most of it. Fairbank was a monster in defence and teams must be fed up of his direct running. Gee just brilliant. Kav misses Keyes inside him but put in a shift. Murray better than of late. O`Brien ,smart and lively and tenacious defence. Calcott on top form. The subs all had an impact but especially Lannon who must have run Inman close for mom even though he only played half the game. Due to games being in London and a Friday night in Sheffield and holiday this was likely the last game I will see for over a month. Many years since that happened. Summer rugby eh!
I hope to see some wins when i watch the highlights ont` net.
