What 'real quality' have signed for Wigan or Sts recently, just out of interest? Field and Bevan were marginal NRL players, not stars. I don't see a single star at Sts. Of far more importance is the fact that Sts spine, which is easily the best in the competition, is entirely made up of English players - and I think they are all Sts products?
What I said was Saints/Wigan pick up NRL players that are very effective in SL - not stars: Bevan/Field/Cust at Wigan - Saints have Hopoate/Sironen/Paasi - they have even made a reasonable player out of Hurrell. Martin is the only decent NRL signing Leeds have made in years.

Yeah I also think our expectations have been lowered over the years so a steady/solid performer is a world away from some of the dross. Let's not forget though that prior had a big chunk of time being ineffective.

Perhaps I miss read it, thought the post said the only ‘Very effective SL player we’ve signed from overseas in years is Martin’
I think the issue is closer to the statement you’ve made, in the ones with brought in haven’t had that whole team impact, with the possible exception of Rob Lui, although granted he wasn’t directly from the NRL.
Most of the big signings haven’t worked out. Prior did for a while, same with Hurrell. Annoyingly Lolohea worked out but not for us. We’ve not really took a gamble on a ‘Kylie Type’ recently, with the possible exception of King, who annoyingly has proved to be someone else’s gain.
