I don't disagree that we shouldn't have got rid of Chester, but the fans made it impossible for him to stay.
It's going that way with Mash.

Yes it was time to remove Chester whose only advantage was his friendship with MC which may have helped release the purse strings when others couldn’t. His sell by date at the club had arrived in fact it probably expired a season earlier.
This is just my opinion but what I find strange was that when they removed WP they had a chance to see which coaches were available the problem MC had decided for whatever reason that Mash was the answer. We can all have an opinion for the reason why he did not take this opportunity but we are now reaping the fallout from this decision.

Plenty of top players didn't make a good coach and plenty of average ones did.

Never mind Applegarth I don’t understand what Ford brings to the table. He should get as much criticism.

I feel a little sympathy for applegarth, but i lay this all at carters door he just appears to go his own way. Financially saved the club and i thank him for that. When kear was here we had a wealth of rl knowledge and results were ok.As soon as he left the decline started and the chester love in started, what i dont get is when results were bad and players called chester carters door was open to players who didn't want o be here. When players moaned about willie who saved us he was sacked that dosen't seem a balanced rl decision, does he listen to anybody? senior players etc who may have had a valid point. I could be wrong but not investing in a proven coach/director of rugby and signing off on extending aged players contracts & poor overseas transfers shows inexpierience or arrogance but certainly a lack of sound rl judgement.Just my opinion dont shoot!

As I understand it Ford is supposedly the attacking coach and pre-season he said he was very happy how the attack was shaping up. Well I'm sorry but if what we are seeing is his idea of attack it differs completely from what most people see. Looking at his strategy he couldn't attack a sack of spuds with a chieftan tank.

You need a lot more than that to progress to the head coaches position.
IMO, for his own development he needs to leave for a head coaches role at a League 1 or Championship club

Not being funny but he is exactly what I said he was and should have left the club to gain some Head Coach experience in the Championship then maybe come back in a few years to test his ability at Super League level.

As it stands we are all losers in this, the fans are watching dross, the clubs looking at relegation and Marks possibly blown his chances of ever being a top flight coach again after Trinity.

I get the club has a budget to stick to etc however, the guy never real did much as a player did he, I think I did more to be honest. He certainly wouldn’t be in my top players at trinity over the years. So because he did ok with the younger sides, doesn’t mean that he will be any good at professional level. That’s what I said back then and I’m sticking to it now. Also I will say again, chester should never have gone……….. And I get told I don’t know anything. There is no way in any rugby league game that you are either nilled or hardly scoring regularly, I thought it was impossible but I will hold my hands up and say I was wrong. Enjoy the rest of the season if you can. My ticket has gone elsewhere as I can’t be bothered with the 4 hour journey to go watch it I’m sorry. Just one last point, there is no excitement watching RL anymore it’s hanging on by it’s coat tails. There is no atmosphere and I will not waste my money attending any game anymore. It’s not worth the hassle of getting to games. The best bit to an RL game these days is the build up about 1 hour before it starts……….. I can’t believe I said that but it’s true(in my opinion)

There is/was no case for retaining Chester, his coaching of the team produced diminishing returns year on year, the further we got away from the effects of Brian Smith and the influence of John Kear the worse we looked. Chris Chester ended up with something like 7 wins from 50 games and a 15% win ratio while the rugby on show was turgid and the recruitment awful. He had to go and, but for Carters non objective decision to keep backing him, he should have gone a year or so before he did!

I agree. Chester did some good things for us but every coach has a shelf life and he had reached his. It was time for a change. What we should have done at that point was look outside the club for some fresh ideas but we replaced him with his assistant. Now Poching had plenty of super league experience as an assistant but non to speak of as a head coach. He went on to have a decent win/loss record but his face didn't seem to fit so we replaced him with an even more inexperienced assistant, one with just one year as a first team assistant behind him. Our coaching team now not only have no top level coaching experience but they also have very little top level playing experience between them either. And to be honest it shows. They may not have the greatest squad to work with but it is so far off it hurts. I feel for Mash and whilst he will likely be the one who pays the price unless it picks up in the next week or two then the people who keep making these decisions need to be the ones who shoulder the blame.

Regarding your mention of Ford armadasa,I was wondering myself about the dynamics of the coaching set up.Not trying to imply that anything is amiss, but whilst I was pleased when Ford came,I was a little surprised he accepted,in that he would previously have been regarded as the senior man.
Back to how it is and I reckon after our rousing second half display,(for effort anyway),and with some players returning,Mash must beat Leigh to keep his job.If we lose and he stays, we are probably winding down for the Championship.I know little or nothing about coaching, so just my thought of course.

The bottom line is this is a results based game and we have played eight and lost eight with an average of 6 point’s scored per game. I would hope that by now that we would see some improvements in our attacking structure. We are on every playing statistic the worst team.
We read that the effort is good and he will turn things around sadly it may be but we have no evidence he is. We all know Carter will not sack him and he will not leave so this is our level for what will be our last SL season. I guess none of us will forget the name Carter so it is some sort of legacy, he saved the club only to watch its decline depending on your viewpoint.

I do find it quite clever how you manage to finish every post with a dig at Carter.
