I’ve just been copied in from an email sent by an ex trinity legend Les Sheard to the person who introduced our two former greats Graham Idle, and Trevor Skerrett, at last Friday Trinity lunch club. The letter was sent by Les, after speaking to the wife of one of our guest speakers, Sadly, I believe both these gentlemen do have a degree of Dementia, but what a wonderful and moving conversation this must have been. Thank you to the Luncheon club and ex players association for the opportunities given to ex players to share their stories.
Gerry, I was beginning to wonder where you had gone only to discover that all your messaging had gone directly in to my Spam box for some reason.I have just discovered about fifteen messages or so.Some wonderful stuff recovered however. Anyway I contacted Colleen yesterday & she was absolutely gushing in praise of yourself. She couldn't believe how you managed to return Graham to days of yore. She reckoned it was as though you had returned him to his old self, saying that the way he came out of himself was almost miraculous. She was quite tearful in praise of what you achieved with Graham & Trevor & said that Mary felt just the same. What they both suffer from is devastating but it is astonishing that you have been able to have such an influence on both of them. The shattering thing however is that when they awakened the following day Graham could not remember anything at all about the lunch or the talk. Colleen is determined (together with Mary) that they will treat the ongoing lunches as regular events for them which is fantastic.I am quite moved by what you have achieved for two great blokes.

Let me tell you as a recent convert to the luncheon club, me and the boss love the warm friendship that oozes in the room, ex players skilfully navigated through their RL years by a compare who is both witty and informative and never puts players on the spot unless they want to of course . Such a rich heritage our club has got and such a refreshing change from the constant vitriol spouted on social media about everything and everyone connected to our great club . On a side note the food is cracking and having now ensconced ourselves on a table of old dears ,the constant toing and froing of extra portions to my plate from overfaced ladies is at times overwhelming, but of course it would be rude to refuse a ladies request. A cracking few hours spent once a month with good food , great interviews,a raffle and good company ,all for the princely sum of £12 ,can’t beat it
