Was a two year ban over the top for testing positive for cocaine?
I personally think it was way over the top, I'd have given him a two week ban.
Gareth himself apparently says that the RFL saved him from being a drug addict, but for a first offence I think a two year ban was really harsh and basically ruined the career of one of the most talented players of his generation.
If he can't play for two years, then what's he gonna do? Go out and sniff coke to pass the time away?
Firstly I'm not even in favour of drug testing people in a free country, and if we are going to, then let's drug test every MP in the country every Monday morning live on television?
Secondly, that two year ban was just ridiculous and was way over the top. A couple of games ban and an internal fine should have been suffice. No need to totally ruin a talent like that.
Image if they'd have ruined a talent like Keith Richards for a similar crime but far more excessive?
