Yes we have. It’s a good start, nothing more. It’s just that winning the first game is better than losing it. You trying to belittle the achievement tells me it’s hurting you.

The biggest problem with our performance was line speed and attitude and discipline in defence and attack.

Nothing to do with individuals. Put in one better prop or 2nd row wouldn't change a great deal.

Sort the above out collectively as a team we become very competitive. Then the lack of a great prop or hard running second row becomes a factor in the bigger games .

Agree with this.

Some players were being scapegoated even before a ball was kicked with certain supporters hoping they would fail which is bizarre.

It was a collectively woeful performance across the park.

As you point out the line speed was horrendous, the team didn’t look like they knew what they were doing in that area and I wonder if a new system has been introduced that the team are not comfortable with.

The missed tackle stats from our pack collectively was ridiculously high which as you say points out towards attitude issues.

Lack of meters being used as a stick to beat props with doesn’t really work as in our system our backs are used to make meters not really the props, who are there to dominate in defence, which they generally didn’t and were rightfully criticised for being soft by Peet.

The only positive I take is that we played so badly and we’re still in with a chance of winning deep into the game.

It’s maybe too simple a way to look at it but the defeat could be a great lesson for us going forward. I don’t think there’s a rank bad side in the league this season and you aren’t going to win games, especially away from home, being that loose.

I’m confident we’ll bounce right back this week and we really then need to get our heads in gear for a very similar challenge to last week, when we go to Cas the following week. C4 tried to make it sound dramatic saying we’ve not won an away game since July last year, when in reality it is now 4 games, with one of them being a team of kids at HKR last year but that away form is something we need to flip round. Getting caught like rabbits in headlights can’t be allowed to become the norm.

Having watched the game back I don’t think King deserves the criticism he’s been given.

If anything Jai Field had his worst game in a Wigan shirt, Cade Cust was caught out of position in defence which will have a knock on effect with King and French. Those 3 need time to build an understanding in defence that’s all.

When I saw the video of the team running up sand dunes, lifting weights, doing the bleep test etc I didn’t see any rugby balls and that’s one reason we were clunky in attack against Hull KR. I think if Briers would have been here he would have made sure first and foremost we are a rugby team, just being strong, fit, fast and disciplined in defence is great but that should be along side being good rugby players not in place of.

More rugby, more ball handling, more work position wise in defence for both edges.

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

Apart from the missed tackle where he was out of position leading to the try by SKD I think he had a reasonable game. His work rate was excellent.

His defensive effort to hold KR player up over the line when they looked certain to score got us the momentum to get back into the game.

He got the assist for the Field try when the easy option would have been to pass to French but his offload under pressure was poor.

I think he was out biggest meter maker on the day and when we were down to 12 he cut a lot of the overlaps on his side short by his rush defence.

In some eyes the SKD try was “proof” he is a poor signing and they won’t be convinced otherwise. He needs to trust his inside man more as he picked out the lead runner allowing the out the back play and lacked the pace to recover once sucked in.

His offload is a great asset as I’d his height where it will be a nightmare for left edge defences on cross field kicks having to mark both him and KPP.

His defence does need a bit of work but it’s not nearly as bad as some make out and he needs to be a bit more selective of when to offload.

Of the 2 centres I was more disappointed in Wardle on Saturday, a player I rate very very highly. He didn’t really get involved with the carries and whilst he was 2nd on the meters made behind King most of him meters came when he had a clear run to the line. I am expecting to see a bit more from him on Friday.

Let’s see where we are in a couple of months. The team as a whole were poor, identifying one player based on our overall performance is not right.
