That game was hardly an advert for Championship rugby. I needed many more fingers to count the dropped ball (from both sides) in the first 20 minutes. So many stupid interferences at the ptb gave London more go forward than they deserved. Discipline is still a problem. London`s forwards seemed to run with more vigour and made lots for ground after contact. Good job our goal line defence stepped up a gear this week. JWH and Jouffret were superb yet again. How on earth Louis did not get MOM is beyond me, he looked dangerous every time he touched the ball. A mention for Kav. He just gets better and better. Who would have thought he would go from hard working prop to dangerous running second row in his thirties.
2 points in the positive column with multiple points in the negative column centring around two much dropped ball / penalties again, very similar to last year more or less exactly 12 months ago against them and others in between.
I don't think our initial contact / collision was that bad and we broke their line more than they did ours but when you go down the mobile pack route then you want the direction to be going forwards rather than backwards due to poor completion rate, sloppiness and ill discipline.
There's no lack of effort but I do worry that after such a length of time if we will ever get anywhere near playing a full 80 minutes at the right level?
Not sure what the official was doing at times, a couple of examples are when Larroyer is down injured in the active play zone he allows play to go on until he penalises us again in the same set but stops play when there are 2 balls on the field with one of them just a couple of foot on the pitch nowhere near the active play zone.
I mean whats more important, players safety or a second irrelevant rugby ball??????
That was a very poor game for me the positives was getting the 2 points and i thought both our wingers had good games and the m.o.m would of been between kavanagh our jouffret for me and it was nice to see doro offer some impact off the bench we could do with more like him. The negatives our defence looks poor we are conceding soft tries near our line time and again and even away from our line we are falling off tackles far too often. And our pass accuracy is not good enough and this is taking the momentum out of our attack for me overall we look off the pace hopefully this will not last for too long. Finally dr did smith offer more then say calcott would of it is hard to judge after 1 game because a player like smith is not a battering ram he likes to offload more then any of are forwards so it would take time to develop that understanding with our players.
JWH looked good as always. Walmsley and Saltonstall got through a decent amount of work. Forwards looked like they were running in treacle every time one ran in and London did a great job at slowing the ruck down to a snails pace. Not sold on Maher yet but Doro looked ok. The DR lad from Cas also tried with some decent offloads although I’d of preferred to see Calcott continue in his place. Gee and Kav played well too. London seemed to come back when Moore was taken off for Kyle Wood.
Some positives for me. Very close to 2k crowd with no away support on a nothing game. Feel the crowd will gradually increase this year with a half decent run. Liked the look of doro just what was needed. Cant understand why Maher isnt playing but obviously not pulling up trees in training . Yes Joffrey was mom for me
