Sounds like they had a real chance at the death, great result though

First win - great stuff!

Delighted. Sounds like we got it right first 30 minutes and then were a bit patchy.
Doesn’t look like our Fijian recruit is fit otherwise not sure why he’s not playing. I noticed again that Albert didn’t seem to play long minutes and the other PNG signing is presumably still not in England so lucky that we got 3 loanees in from Wigan.
Still think we should have more competition for kicking duties- the extra points are really important.

Our kicking game remains poor and we are crying out for an experienced half back, that was a very poor whitehaven team, I would be really worried tonight if I was one of their supporters, but I'm not ! Billy Leyland did well off the bench (grabbed our 3rd try from dummy half) and Wigan's youngsters put in a good shift. We bombed at least 2 tries and made it difficult for ourselves but at it's a better feeling travelling home tonight than the previous 2 trips to Haven. Swinton's win at Batley is food for thought after our 10 point defeat to them last week

Leyland B is doing well. Needed the win with both Swinton and Newcastle having points on the board. Sometimes you just have to get over the line and we did that so encouraging but it is a worry we are relying on short term loanees so early in the season.

The BBC Cumbria commentary team were pretty complimentary about him and it sounded like he shifted momentum and was a threat whenever he was on. Reassuring to know we have someone with a bit of potential impact off the bench and can spell Sam and/or Dean at 9.
Sounded as though we are still building the connections, which will hopefully come with more games and a settled line-up, but agree with your point on loanees.

I wonder if Albert is fully fit. Doesn’t seem to be playing many minutes. Parata also seems a little quieter. Then there are the kids. We sign them on one year, two year contracts but if they don’t get any game time how do they develop? Unfortunately we are too vulnerable to play the kids though so it’s catch 22. Additionally Skolars seem to have grown their squad so not automatic they can go there. This is Howarth’s second season and I don’t think he’s played yet and your point on Horsman in an earlier post was a good one. This is his 3rd season now he will need to push on. The sad part is that if we don’t renew contracts 90% appear lost to the game.

Maybe we're just holding them back a little, off the back of a long season and World Cup? I'm not too worried at the minute, but if we get another month down the line and it's the same, then I'll start getting concerned. Not sure I was completely sold on Parata at 13 against Batley, but there isn't really anyone else we can put in there currently that can do big minutes. Just more issues our late/disjointed recruitment has caused us I feel.
Good point on Skolars, article in todays League Express said this years squad (30) is the biggest they've had. Signed a couple of young Australians who look like they could be decent prospects and upgraded one or two from their own academy. If the heralded investment is forthcoming, that pretty much ties us off in terms of sending youngsters you feel.
I wonder what the rules are regarding younger players playing for Conference South Clubs? I.e. could we make players available to play for Wests or Chargers or the like and give them a chance to develop outside of Academy/Reserve Grade?

Eccles face and body language in the few seconds before the interview on the Haven game (LB Twitter feed) very reminiscent of mine during, and at the end of, the Widnes, Haven and Newcastle games last year.

At least he did an interview after this game. Again admits undercooked for Batley and says recruitment is ongoing.

Gus Mackay we salute you!!
