Think as well the aim is to improve standards in the reserve set up. To me it makes a lot of sense having a set of decent standard players in early twenties mentoring the younger players coming through. Dual reg and loans are fine up to a point but they're always going to be coached by guys whose principal objective is winning with developing players something of a distant second.

Let’s be honest, we’ve been terrible pre season and that was about the strongest squad we’ve got available that Smith put out on Sunday and they were garbage. I’d fancy our chances with a fully fit 17 including Newman, Macdonald, Oledzki and Bentley, but that’s not looking anywhere near likely.
