Hardly penniless Ghost, they are paying up to £15k a pop to criminal gangs for a lift in a dinghy. Also the same story has been run by more respected papers than the Express.

Did the French allow diphtheria to spread. I am sure this will appear in some newspaper but the source providing the details is the same and without true numbers just as worthless. I guess it suits the line these papers what to portray and the Government are happy to do so. I think they would be better explaining to the Home Secretary how you can legally apply to enter the U.K. because her response was to come over to the U.K. and apply unfortunately this would not work and shows her complete level of understanding. I wonder if anyone bought her a dream catcher for Christmas so she can make sure to not forget any deportation dreams to Rwanda.

But facts don't pay the political bills for right wingers. Their only path to power is sowing fear and hatred. So they pretend that the real issues the UK faces aren't the corruption of this country's economy by a tiny number of vastly rich billionaires or the hiving off our our nation's assets for a pittance. It's not the vast inequality, the crumbling infrastructure or the poverty. All these obvious things that are wrong with the UK bring us back to them because this is the nation they and their deliberately destructive policies have built.
So instead they drum up spurious BS about a small number penniless, desperate foreigners instead. And sadly it works over and over again with their base - who get red in the face and start regurgitating these silly stories like this one in the Express without taking a moment to stand back and realise how easily they are being played.
Whilst I agree with much of the above on the refugees - there does seem to be a large number of Albanians - this I find odd as I am unaware of issues in that country? Also if you are unhappy at the regime in your country how will running help you change it? Finally many of these people have travelled through a host a safe countries before getting on a dingy - why the UK surely all these 45k+ don't have relatives/contact here?

I've been to Albania around a dozen times since 2003 and the progress is clear but let's not kid ourselves that Albania has anywhere near EU-standards of legal protection, enforcement or civil rights. The country has a veneer of civilisation which works well in the touristy areas but underneath there is a lot of crime with gangs and the Albanian mafia remaining strong. Deadly blood feuds between gangs and families are still a major, major problem with sectarian murder and reprisal killings still shockingly common. The presence of likely death due to this is one of the major reasons people fleet Albania. The British press with their pathetic, obviously racist smears of "Albanian men" deliberately mislead their readers about why people leave that country.
"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

This is the blinding that is happening to people, it needs fixing big time, although most of the readers are dying out............

As the Nauset said to the Pilgrim Father.
I think refugees have largely given up on trying to achieve change and are simply trying to escape. Sometimes it just isn’t safe to stay.

But its not our problem. We can't house, educate and treat anyone and everyone from every basket case country in the world for God's sake. You obviously don't subscribe to the view that we are importing the crime and feuds along with these Albanians then. And it's not racist to call groups of Albanian males "Albanian men"

I am sure you will be able to explain the process that allows an individual to apply for asylum in the U.K.
