However what he did was continue the growth of the playing group . His man management was apparently top draw and the style of rugby was very good to watch.

McClennan was a good man manager, perfect for the team at that time which needed pointing in the right direction and firing up. But he wasn't a person to really develop a team so he was always going to have a limited shelf life. Hetherington signed Buderus.
"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

Doesn't Hetherington sign everybody, the last ten years or so of recruitment has been a sad story indeed.
“You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”

I think he always does the negotiations but signings are not totally on his say.Agar recommended Martin the club.It does seem that Smith has the say on who he wants then it's up to Hetherington to see if a deal can be done.

So if you are referring to me as a “guess” it really wasn’t a guess. But to be honest I don’t really care about your opinion. I was told he was leaving and they were coming to an agreement. Which they have as he didn’t want to go anywhere and he has now been paid off. The Williame link is true doesn’t necessarily mean it will come off and we can be interested. If people didn’t want me to pass on the little bits of info I get then they can tell me and I will happily not do it.
