I still think we should have signed a replacement and announced it the same day as releasing Connor.
As you say Dave its to be hoped the deal for Connor to go was done on the condition that had secured his replacement, though the latest in the HDM suggests the arrival of Clifford is dependent on other signings in the article
Reading the article it also seems that the club had been looking for another half some time even taking in to account the signing of Hoy so possibly suggests that Connor had already made it known he wanted to leave some time ago and maybe why Smith hasn't tried to change Connors mind if his heart hasn't been in it.

I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

He was all set to sign for Canberra until they pulled the plug. From what im led to believe it was the fact he was told that he would need an operation and was facing a lengthy spell out that led to them backing out.

Swear some hull fans just look to create drama. Loads of the lads put stuff on about Connor leaving. Was also at some of the World Cup games with a few of the lads but because it doesn’t suit the agenda they ignore it.
Weve released our most creative player which categorically should not have been done without a stonewall recruited replacement. It has limped along a little too long without announcing whatever signing prompted our decision to release him.
Our recruitment, overall, has been solid. In terms of a new coach, very good.
The effective use of Connors cap space is the difference between a scrap for the playoffs or confidently within them.

I
Maybe the players club have asked us not to announce it until they have a replacement signed up?
Could be part of the agreement?
Agree with the comment above that some fans just look to create drama!
