I'm assuming we'll get the Bateman going back to the NRL news first before the Wardle signing (if either are actually happening?). News management 101.
I reckon a year ago most of us would have said (did say?) that retaining Bateman was way more important than retaining French. I don't think that now. JB has been OK, but he's not irreplaceable.

I’m not directing that at you necessarily but it seems to be the underlying thoughts lately.
KPP isn’t a centre. He’s a secondrow. King is the only specialist centre in the squad for next year as it stands with Thornley being a utility back and maybe the same for Halsall.
Time will tell I guess but if it’s not Wardle we sign we still need another centre in this squad regardless of who we currently have signed.
Hope you’re right pal.
To me, Wire only one senior centre too and are getting rid of Holmes which might be clearing space for Wardle.
RICHARDS IS SUPERMAN!!!!

Read that NRL clubs are pulling out of a deal for Bateman as Wigan want £200k transfer fee
I think maybe we should start managing expectations regarding Wardle. I don't know anything, but there's definitely a sense that this story has died down a lot, and frankly, if we have signed him, I can't conceive of any reason why it hasn't now been announced.
As for Bateman, I too have seen the story that Aussie clubs are stepping back thanks to the transfer fee - which wouldn't surprise me at all given that the NRL is still so amazed by itself that it automatically assumes all Brits should go there on a free because it's such an honour. Personally, I'm not too bothered either way. When JB went the first time, it was with all our best wishes because we felt he should try himself at that highest level. He did a job for Canberra, and then came back, citing homesickness, family etc. None of which suddenly seems to be an issue now that we hear there's been a mid-contract conversation with yet another NRL club. I'd be frustrated if we hadn't heard it before with the likes of Budgie and Hastings, so now I just shrug and say 'if they don't want to be here, why try to keep them'.
I don't think JB's performances have been all that, either. He's played as if he's not as committed to Wigan as we all thought, and in my view has been lucky to make the England squad.
I don't hold it against him, by the way. It's a short career, he has to maximise his earnings, etc etc ... it's completely understandable. But from our POV, I no longer consider him the essential name on the team-sheet.

Little mention here of Dean Whare potentially joining us

'Do you remember when we had that meeting in Orlando? We talked about how we were knocked out the previous year by Leeds. And at the end, I asked you one question. "Do you want to be a semi-final team? Or do you want to do something special?" You all said you wanted to win. But talking is easy – it needed you to believe. It needed you to work hard – harder than you had – and make sacrifices. You did all that. you worked for each other. You stuck together when it was tough. And because of your efforts, you sit here tonight as champions. I'm proud of you. Be proud of yourselves. You've done something special.' Shaun Wane's post-Grand Final speech. 5th October 2013.

Yeah that's true. Unless it's Miski, or Isa then I'd begrudge losing any of our quota guys. They've all, to varying degrees, played a part this year and I really like the idea of a proper settled side going into 23.
