[quote="Irregs#16"]I agree with that. It isn't a lack of effort from Houghton, it is more a lack of energy.
You need your senior players to drive the standards, and for me, Griffin and Taylor have abused this position, promoted apathy within the group, and this has filtered down to players like Lane, who had his worst season since breaking into the first team[/quote
Very much agree. One thing Danny can't be accused of is lack of effort. i've seen Lane is already back in the gym so hopefully a big pre season to come and back to his best next season.

Just shows you what a difference a good coach can make to the same set of players. We’ve relied on players ability in recent times, good or bad. Can’t wait to see what happens with a proven head coach at the club.

Exactly, Hodgson made no improvements in 2 years, surley there should be some improvement. People keep saying that we need to get rid of loads of players, R Smith has proven that a good coach can get the best of out players. This is maybe why T Smith is looking at a clean slate for all players, maybe he thinks he can get the best out of the likes of Taylor

Tony is a good, experienced rugby coach so I'll trust the decisions he makes.
I do feel some tough decisions have to be made and I think we have a good enough personality in charge to make them.
I'm not expecting instant success but I do feel he can bring some pride back and put some roots in place for the years to come. Any success will be a bonus.
I think the coach after him can have the success if we get the right person. Smith isn't someone who sticks around at a club for too long but he knows his onions and is what we need right now.

He was at Wire from 2009-2017. That is quite a long time for a coach to stay these days.

Not posted in a while but just wanted to make a comment on everyone slagging off players like Taylor saying they're the reason were in this mess and they should be binned etc - well my opinions different - im sure weve all worked in an environment where a manager gets promoted beyond their abilities and pay grade and you have little or no faith in them, they continually make poor decisions and quite frankly you lose all motivation to do a good job for them as theyre clueless - well continually promoting untried assistants has caused total apathy from a large amount of the players with very few of them having any faith in the coaches ability and that is why the team is such a mess. Tony Smith is an appointment this club has been crying out for for years - i dont think he's gonna turn us into world beaters but if we can play with the enthusiasm HKR did it will a massive improvement and im actually looking foward to next season massively more than i was a couplle of weeks ago

Slight difference being that when I go to work I don’t have a group of fans supporting me and paying good money to watch me do the best I can.
If they don’t want to do it for the coach they should at least be motivated to do it for the fans.
Especially in a local derby and especially when some of those players themselves grew up fans of the club so know what it is like and how we are feeling?

I'll echo that.
Keep issues in house. There's better ways as senior players they can voice their displeasure behind closed doors Displaying poor form and attitude on the pitch hurts the fans and in turn the club financially. They're professional sportsmen, use common sense to deal with the problems. The players are part of this process and equally as culpable, no excuses. If it wasn't for TS appointment I'd have probably not renewed my pass. Well done the players for making a point on the field
