If we are talking about past glories, at least they were in this century. Rovers have (or had) a 10-5 bar or stand at the cowshed, celebrating a game that was 42 years ago. There is a whole generation of Rovers fans that hear that tale from their grandparents, so what does that say.
In truth, with a couple of shrewd signings, on paper , our current squad is decent and could go very well. Fully agree with other posters about Griffin and Tag, but they didn't become bad players overnight, and, until his achilles injury, Griffin was being touted as a world cup candidate for England. Surely a good coach could take him back to somewhere near that level. His performances this season have been abject, and on the face of it, unprofessional, but we don't really know what had happened behind the scenes, we actually form opinions on rumour. Maybe things have happened that we haven't been told about, which have played a role in the whole situation and I am sure AP will know the whole truth, which maybe why BH has gone? Flogging Danny Houghton for 80 minutes made no sense to any of us, apart from the coach and he is still a good player to have in the squad, if we play him at the right time and for the right length of minutes, to mentor Balmforth, who is not yet at the level required, but could be soon.
In any case, a new approach is definitely needed, we could be serious relegation candidates next year, Leigh have a squad that already would compete with the mid table SL clubs as is, and they will strengthen further if they manage to win their competition.
