Saints fan in peace just looking for clarification.
Last night Huddersfield got a penalty and tried to kick the goal. It didn't go over and the ball landed in the field of play and didn't go dead. Both teams and all the officials just jogged away into position for the restart, nobody made any effort to pick the ball up and play on.
Unless there's been a rule change my understanding is that the ball is still live and play should continue. Am I wrong?

I’d say you’re right. There are three possible outcomes: 1) ball is kicked between the posts, two points. 2) ball doesn’t go between the posts but goes dead, drop out. 3) ball doesn’t go between the posts but stays in play, play on.
The only caveat for play on in the last scenario is that the ref thinks it was a genuine attempt at goal.
It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.
Talking of rules, we were 12 14 down last night then got a 6 again in more than kickable range, should we not have the opportunity to level the scores with less than 10 to go?

I thought that, just hate the 6 again rule. Just bring back the quick tap let the players decide.

I'm not a massive fan of 6 again. BUT revert to a tap and the TV games get further ruined by even more frequent episodes of idiotic analysis of reffing by Baz, Tez, Wilkin etc...

He only missed 1 penalty, and that went dead The kick that just missed and the ball stayed in goal was a conversion

6 again is good in principle but is often exploited.
Example, earlier in the season Saints used to often deliberately hold down on the first tackle for a team bringing the ball out of their 22. Bought Saints time to get their defensive line in order - worth it for the sake of one extra tackle. Not worth it if it a penalty is given instead.

Possible solution. Offence committed by defending side in opposition's 20 (40?), then it's a penalty rather than 6 again.
