Centurions Put the Knights To The Sword As they Break Club Records

A win for the Leigh Centurions over the York City Knights at the Leigh Sports Village would move then a step closer to guaranteeing top spot in early September, but a win for the City Knights would guarantee their top six finish and their place in the play-offs.

Leigh were massive favourites against the sixth placed side with York getting a forty-eight point start on the handicap coupon, no one giving the City Knights even the sniff of a chance of win as the Centurions bandwagon was expected to roll straight over the top of them.

It looked like it would be an easy afternoon for the home side but nothing could have prepared us for what we were about to witness.

Credit to York. It's not everyday you secure your playoff spot with a 100-4 defeat.

Let's see next season Budgie. For all the hype at the minute I looked at that squad yesterday and it's still packed full of discarded/bottom end SL players.

Not having a dig, just an honest opinion. Would need minimum 7/8 solid SL players adding to have a chance at staying up next season IMO.

Not having a dig but then you do,quality.

How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?

Nope... a dig is using a smart-arris remark to try and belittle. I'm merely pointing out the fact that when you look at the British players (& non-quota counting) in Leigh's squad it's littered with SL basement dwellers, players "past their best" and Championship level players.

Leigh Centurions
1 Aekins
26 Ferguson
16 Chamberlain - Did nothing at Salford and loaned out to London in Championship
23 Inu - Brilliant player but will be almost 36 by start of next season
27 Charnley - Way past his best
7 Mellor - Never good enough to be anything other than a Championship player
30 Lam
8 Sidlow - Steady but unspectacular, almost 35
9 Smith
13 Amone
11 Wardle - Best years behind him
12 Stone
18 Asiata

Substitutes
21 Ipape
24 O'Donnell
10 Ioane
3 Brand - Championship/bottom end SL standard

Now I'm sure a Leigh fan would be able to tell me which non-quota players they've got coming in to replace the outgoing Aussies next year and I'm more than happy to be proved wrong. That squad will need a big overhaul to A) meet SL criteria B) compete.

Will be interesting to see how they go about it with DB & MK and they won't be spending under the cap that's for sure.

Lam & Chester have produced probably the best championship team we've seen. They started with 5 players from last season. I'd say that's pretty impressive. So we will have faith in them hence forth.
Leythers are nicely happy. Thank you for your concern. :thumb:

I didn't say it was a Super League 'ready' side, just brilliant. But thanks for your comments anyway. :D

Jeez you lot are still as touchy as ever.

I was genuinely intrigued as to how you're going to reshape the team as you'll obvs have to offload a load of Aussies. See you next season. :D

Fair enough. If we do get promoted can't see Ben Nakubuwai (not being selected currently) , Krisnan Inu (his age), Caleb Aekins (homesick or his girlfriend is allegedly), Sam Stone (signing for Melbourne ?) Jy Hitchcox & Ata Hingano have already departed and Nene McDonald is reportedly signing for Leeds Rhinos.
